We should never underestimate or take for granted the mercy of God.

The Lord operates from a foundation of mercy.

Consequently, before you even enter His presence He stretches out His arms to you and extends mercy.

To understand God’s principle of mercy let us examine the story of Queen Esther.

The Queen had a burden on her heart concerning the plot to murder the entire Jewish population, and only the king could prevent such a tragedy.

She needed to plead to the king for help on behalf of her people but only invited persons were allowed to enter the presence of the king otherwise they would be killed.

Several weeks had passed since the king sent her an invitation and she needed to speak to him urgently.

Thousands of lives including herself were at stake.

So the queen determined in her heart, “I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!” (Esther 4:16b NKJV)

After three days and nights of fasting, Queen Esther anointed herself with oil and dressed in her best royal apparel, and entered the presence of the king uninvited.

As soon as the king saw his beautiful queen standing in the court she obtained favor in his sight, “and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. So Esther drew near and touched the top of the scepter.

Then said the king unto her, ‘what wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.'” (Esther 5:2-3)

The golden scepter represents mercy.

The king had compassion upon the queen and instead of applying the death sentence upon her, he granted her life.

In addition, he promised to give her whatever she desired.

This is exactly how God sees us when we enter into His presence regardless of our circumstances, whether we need healing and deliverance or we are riddled with sin seeking forgiveness.

The wages of sin is death, but when God looks at us in His court He sees Jesus Christ who already paid the penalty for our sins so He extends His scepter of mercy and gives us grace.

As a result, we can enter boldly to God’s throne of grace where we will find Him at the mercy seat of grace.

There we will obtain mercy to help us in times of need (Hebrews 4:16).
