An angel in John’s vision declared the fall of Babylon in the latter times.

 And another angel followed, saying, “Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” (Revelation 14:8)

The angel further announced that fallen Babylon had become the dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird (Revelation 18:2).

Sins of Babylon

The judgment of Babylon will be fierce because it was responsible for polluting the nations with the sin of fornication and the greed for luxury. Babylon claimed that it sat as queen, was not a widow and would see no sorrow (Revelation 18:7)

Babylon was responsible for using sorcery to deceive all the nations of the world. It is guilty of the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth.”

Get out of Babylon

Before the downfall of Babylon, the angel is encouraging us to get out or else we will share in its sins and receive its pending plagues.

Judgment

God will repay Babylon double according to its evil work. In the same measure that it glorified itself in luxury, God will give it torment and sorrow.

Babylon’s plagues of death, mourning, and grief will come in one day. It will be utterly burned with fire.

Reaction to the downfall of Babylon

The corrupt people who partook of Babylon iniquities was shocked at its destruction. They weep and lament when they saw the smoke of its burning.

They cried, ‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.’

The merchants who traded luxury goods with Babylon wept bitterly because they have lost their earnings and profits. These merchants and people who became wealthy because of Babylon wailed,

 ‘Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.’ (Revelation 18:16-17)

The shipping company who had done business with it stood at a distance and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What is like this great city?’ (Revelation 18:18)

All of them threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying,

‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she is made desolate.’ (Revelation 18:19)

But, the entire heaven rejoiced at the downfall of Babylon

“Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!”

Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying,

“Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore. (Revelation 18:20-21)

Who or what is Babylon?

Is it a country or a person?

Before you answer this question, let’s consider the following scripture verses.

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. (Isaiah 13:19)

The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; you who say in your heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’ (Obadiah 1:3)

So, the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Revelation 12:9)

The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. (Revelation 20:10)

The above verses point us to some vital information. Pride is equated with Babylon, and it is a deceiver. Satan and Babylon are also identified as deceiving the whole world.

Therefore, Babylon, Satan, and pride are one.

The downfall of Babylon will happen in your lifetime and also at the end of this world. It is, therefore, crucial that you get out of Babylon now.

Repent! The downfall of Babylon is imminent!
