Beverley, this is really good stuff! Thank you for sharing!

This passage fascinates me. Something I never knew before until hearing N.T. Wright teach on this, the first two times Jesus asked this, he said “do you agape me?” and Peter responded, “yes Lord, I phileo you.” The third time Jesus asked “do you phileo me?” Jesus is amazing and meets us where we’re at to get us where he wants us! Blessings sis!

    1. Thank you for sharing also. I think I have heard this message of the different meaning of love in Peter’s response. I woke one morning with this passage of scripture on my mind. When I read it I relialized that Jesus is asking us if we really and truly love and care about Him above everything else in our lives. When we look at the state of the Church, it is doubtful if we do.

Awesome post Beverley, it brought to mind this scripture:

“And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Matthew 25:40

That’s how much we love you, Lord, and we say …even so, come, Lord Jesus.

    1. Thank you Susan. You have placed the icing on the cake. This scripture came to my mind as I was writing this post, but I completely forget to insert it in the post. πŸ™πŸ’•

  6. Amen…this is so true. I love that you took out Peter’s name and entered the church name. It makes it even more relevant as to what we are called to be doing. We are to be physically feed where necessary, but also at this crucial time…spiritually feeding the needy.

    1. Thank you my sister for sharing. This is a thought provoking message to the Church. We are too complacent and we need to examine ourselves carefully. Do we love the Lord more than these?

  7. This devotion calls for a self evaluation. Does my service for Christ mirror the word of my commitment?

“And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.”

Peter was very aware that Jesus knew the intents of his heart and three times Jesus gave Peter a command to serve. Jesus also knows the intents of our hearts, and He knows where our loyalities lie. The third time Jesus asked Peter, He used Peter’s word for love that signified something less than total devotion, questioning even that level of love Peter thought he was safe in claiming. The lessons driven home to Peter grieved his heart. Christ desires that we learn these same lessons.

Am I serving Christ as a loyal, dedicated, totally commited child of God, or do I serve Him only if it is convienent for me to do so? Let us look at our hearts. There may be something to grieve about.

What about it friend? Are you totally devoted to Christ in every area of your life? Could you possibly be a crisis Christian, when the crisis comes then you come to Christ. When the crisis is over, then Christ is no longer needed. Perhaps you are a prosperity Christian? As long as things are going well you walk with God, but when trials and tribulations occur, your devotion wanes. How about it? Where do you stand? Are you fully devoted to Christ? If not, you can be. If you will be willing to forsake all for Him God will be willing to give all that He has to you. What about it friend? Why don’t you do it now?

A very thought provoking post. May the Lord help us to be in right standing with him.

Stay blessed my sister and have a great day.

    1. Yes, we all need to evaluate ourselves. If we love Jesus we must feed His sheep. This is a wake up call for all of us.
