Seven Steps to happiness

How do you define happiness?

Does true happiness depends on yourself or someone else?

Does your happiness depend on whether or not your children or spouse are happy?

What are the things that prevent your happiness?

Sometimes your happiness can be stolen.

Yes, your happiness can be stolen.

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

(John 10:10 NKJV)

Satan will steal your possessions, your family, and even your joy.

But the Lord Jesus Christ will give you abundant life if you choose Him today.

You can also hijack your happiness when you continue to re-live your past mistakes.

You can also sabotage your happiness when you compare yourself with others.

The psalmist in Psalms 73 found himself in this predicament when he compared the lifestyle of the wicked in his community with that of his own.

The Psalmist said that he almost lost his way when he began to envy the rich people who were prospering in spite of their wickedness.

They were strong and healthy with no apparent problems like ordinary folks. They were prideful and cruel and boasted shamelessly about their accomplishments.

They even spoke against the Almighty saying, “What does God know?” they ask. “Does the Most High even know what’s happening?” (Psalms 73: 11 NLT)

In comparison to these wealthy people, the Psalmist thought his lifestyle of purity and honesty was in vain.

The wicked seems to be enjoying a stress-free life while he was plagued with problems.

He could not understand the disparity or the unfairness until he went into the sanctuary of God.

It was then that the writer understood the destiny of the wicked.

He discovered that the wicked live on the edge, which will crumble at the puff of God’s breath.

Thus, he became ashamed of his foolish and ignorant thoughts.

The Psalmist recognizes that when he lives in the sanctuary of God he is sheltered and protected, and the Lord will direct his path.

My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.

(Psalms 73:26 NLT)

You can also find your happiness when you begin to care about others.

Romans 12:10 (NLT) states that we are to “love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.”

We are to be kind, merciful and forgiving to each other even as the Lord has forgiven our sins (Ephesians 4:32) 

The best way to be happy is to find your happiness in God.
