Thirsting For God
O God, You are my God; early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land where there is no water. So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory. (Psalms 63:1-2 NKJV)
When your soul thirst for God you will seek Him early in the morning as soon as you are awake and every hour thereafter throughout the day.
During the New Testament period, the priest burnt incense on the altar every morning when he tended to the lamp.
He burnt it continually before the Lord throughout the generation (Exodus 30:1-10). The incense represents the prayers of the saints.
Hence, we are encouraged to burn our incense by praying early in the morning.
Countless benefits await you when you pray in the morning. Some of these benefits include:
The heads of the idols will be cut off and the plots of the enemies overturned. An example of this is seen in 1 Samuel 5:3-4 when Philistines stole the Ark of God and placed it in the temple of their god Dagon.
However, in the morning when they awoke they found Dagon fallen on his face before the Ark of God. They put Dagon on its feet again but the following morning he was once again fallen on the floor before the Ark but this time his head and palm of his hands were cut. (1 Samuel 5:3-5)
All other gods must bow in the presence of the Lord.
The Lord will tread down your enemies as you seek Him early in the morning (Psalms 108:1-13)
The compassion and mercy of God is renewed every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23)
The Lord Jesus Christ tells us that those who hunger and thirst after righteousness will be filled (Matthew 5:6)
My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? (Psalms 42:2)
The Lord promised that when the poor and needy seek water and there is none and when they cannot speak because of thirst He will hear and not forsaken them. this thirst refers to both spiritual and physical. (Isaiah 41:17)
For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the watercourses. (Isaiah 44:3-4)
The Lord is, therefore, inviting you to come and partake of His living waters. You can come and buy milk and wine without money and without price (Isaiah 55:1)
Whosoever drinks the living water of God will never thirst again. (John 4)
My prayer for you today is that you will stretch out your hands to God and let your soul thirst for His presence so that the Lord will hear you speedily.
Pray: Psalms 143
Wonderful thing with God is even if we go through a period of feeling distant, we can come back to him and thirst for him again.
