Can Famous Celebrities Be saved?

Who can be saved? Is Christianity a selective religion?

Jesus said that it is easy for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God (Matthew 19:24)

Does this statement hold through for popular celebrities in the secular world?

It is a fact that we are living in a world filled with deception.

Sadly, this deception is increasing daily and is prevalent in the churches.

Many of our youths are leaving the Church and many born again Christians are falling away from the faith.

On the other hand, there are some popular persons in the music and media industries who have joined the church and immediately are given the microphone and podium to preach and lead worship.

These scenarios are baffling a lot of Christians and many are questioning the authenticity of these famous new believers.

Some Christians outrightly condemn them while others received them with open arms without even considering some of these mega stars past life of open blasphemy.

I want to put this situation to you to get your views. I value your opinion.

What do you think about these famous celebrities such as Kanye West, Justin Beiber, Demi Lavoto, DMX, Snoop Dog, Brad Pitt claiming to be born again Christians?

Beyonce mass – Christianity or cult?

Do you think that these famous new believers are trying to merge the world into christianity?

Do you believe that they are genuine?

Do you think that the pastors of these celebrities are trying to get more fame and fortune?

Below is a video that I want you to watch before answering these questions.

I am not promoting the channel or pastor of this video, but his message coincide with my views on the matter and that is the reason why I am sharing the video.

Depending on your response to this post, I think I will set aside one day of the week to discuss current issues with you.

The following are some scripture references that the pastor of the video used.

Acts 8- 9; Acts 26:20; 1 John 4:1-5; 2 Peter 1:4; Galatians 3; Galatians 4:19; Ephesians 4; Philippians 5:3-11

Thank you for reading and participating in this discussion.

  1. Beverley, a very interesting question. When I was in Israel, I saw sheep and goats being herded by the same shepherd. Jesus tells us that He himself will one day separate the sheep and the goats. Similarly, He lets the wheat and the weeds grow together until the day of judgement. I don’t concern myself with whether a person is a genuine Christian or not. I just try to love Him and serve Him and others, to the best of my ability. The Lord knows the sheep that hear his voice. 🤗

    • Amen. So true, Sally. The sheep knows the voice of the Good Shepherd. On the day of harvest, He will separate the goats from the sheep. However, I can’t help but feel concerned about the millions of the followers of these celebrities who may become deceived. Much prayer is needed in these times. Thank you for sharing. Blessings always.

      • Beverley, I so agree. Deception for sure is possible, and Let’s continue to pray that people aren’t deceived by celebrities. Christianity often is not “glamorous”. Our Lord asks us to carry our spiritual crosses and follow him. Genuine Christianity will show itself by the fruits of the spirit. Let us pray that we will all persist and grow in our faith. 🤗

      • Amen. My sister, it is indeed a cross that comes with trials. The fire will test our works and only what is done for Christ will last. I value your input. Thank you again.

      • So interesting you wrote this comment ! I have been singing, for a few days, the Song “When it’s all been said and done”. So true, only the things we have done for Christ will stand the test of time.

  2. Unfortunately the video won’t come up for me. But I like this verse…Matthew 7:20 NLT, “Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.” I believe if someone is making a true profession of faith you will see it in their lifestyle. It is a process that takes time but pastors should use wisdom with who they are allowing to be in charge.

  3. I agree with the comments that Dawn made. Salvation is available for every person. Right now, only God knows how truly sincere these celebrities’ are with their professions. We must wait to see what fruit they bare going forward.

My prayer is that these pastors will not rush these folks into positions of power too quickly. These new converts need to sit and hear God’s Word, and gain an understanding of Biblical principles, so they will be strong enough(through the Holy Spirit’s leading) to resist the temptation to return to their old lifestyles.

We have corporate prayer at my church each week, and our prayer is always that the pastors of those celbrities will be more concdrned with feeding these new converts’ soul and spirit, rather than trying to get into their pockets.

    • You mention a very immportant point. I believe some of them may be genuine but will not receive the biblical teaching that is much needed for a new convert. Hence, when the pressure arise they quickly revert back to their usual lifestyle. Thank you. Your input is much appreciated.

  4. Great question Bev!

    As were are called to rightly discern by His Spirit those who are the called according to His purpose — in His Word we find;

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or height, for I have rejected him; the LORD does not see as man does. For man sees the outward appearance, but the LORD sees the heart.” I Samuel 16:7.

[For], “the Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,” Romans 8:16. So, the Holy Spirit will reveal to our spirit, not our flesh, those who belong to Him in Spirit and Truth.

“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling,” Philippians 2:12.

“Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God,” I Corinthians 4:5.

    Also, check your email.

    • Hi Candice, I totally agreed with you. We cannot judge a person by their outward appearances. We have to know them by their spirits and the Holy Spirit will definitely bear witness with our spirits. Thank you for your contribution. I will also check my email.

  5. This question could even be asked of politicians and even the hermit next door. I would like to believe they are what they say they are. To be honest, it’s not my place to judge. There’s only one judge who knows the truth. So I can’t answer the question however, I do believe their actions and words will show their true selves. Follow your heart and I believe too that God can help us discern the truth.

    • This goes for all of us. It is by our actions and words we speak that we will know what is in the heart. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on the subject. I hope you will have a blessed day.

  6. I agree with Dawn. In time, a person’s action would determine if they are genuine or not. In the meantime, we must pray for them as God can use anyone for His glory. It would be wrong of me to judge these celebrities. No one changes overnight. I remember how I was in the beginning of my Christian journey and how much I struggled with a particular sin. No one changes overnight. In time all will be revealed, until then we can only pray for God to use them.

    • Your views are right on target. We cannot condemn them, but at the same time we would prefer to see them spend some time to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ instead of immediately becoming preachers and worship leaders. If they are genuine the devil will attack them like a ravenous lion. So to avoid this, it is best to spend time in the Word and in prayer. Thank you for sharing in this discussion.

  7. Oh my gosh! I was just beginning to put out a post about whether or not Christianity is exclusive, as critics claim it to be. Now I don’t need to! Great job.
P.S. I’ll answer your questions later when I get the chance to see the video.

    • Hi Dee. Please put out your post. It is just confirming that God wants us to look closely into these things so that we are not deceived. I am sure that you will shed some new insights on the matter. Thank you and have a great day.

      • Hi Beverley. I watched the video you attached and was surprised by the boldness of this preacher. I’m happy to see him be so bold, and especially how he’s calling out these people who are claiming to be Christians and living exactly opposite. And that he’s loving -and warning- them all through the message. I don’t think it’s my place to say where these people in their hearts, but I agree with the video that they (just like all Christians) must show the fruit of repentance before we should just accept them and allow them to preach, etc. The Bible says that an elder of church -which includes pastors, as they are considered elders- should not be recent converts. And it says that for a reason. So, I don’t think it’s far-fetched to say that these celebrities should not just be handed the mic because of their status. If they are truly Christians, then their lives and fruit should reflect this. If not, I say we should be very cautious.

      • I totally agree with you Dee. I found that the Pastor on the video was quite bold but he did his research and showed evidences. I also like that he tried to take a middle ground on this situation. Not openly condemning and not gullible accepting without the celebrities showing fruits of repentance. Thank you for sharing and I look forward to read your post when you finish write it.

  8. In reference to Kanye West. If Kanye has really given his life to Christ then the first thing he needs is to be discipled, not start a church. Who trained him? Who equipped him? He needs to be in a ministry that is teaching “sound doctrine” so he can learn the Bible. (2 Peter 2:4). Otherwise he is just putting on a musical concert and this is dangerous spiritually for himself and those who hear him.

    • I agree with you fully. I also think that he should renounced some of his songs that are blasphemy against God. He sang some weird songs that need to be taken off the air. If he is now a child of God, he needs to put away the former things and embraced the new. At the same time we are not condemning him because only God knows his heart. Thank you for participating in this discussion. Your views are much appreciated.

  9. I so loved your question.
    No one asks it.
So very good on you Beverly.
    The answers are so interesting.
I despair of celebrity culture, tramping on everything I hold sacred.
Of course I despair of Trump followers even more.
Yet, I didn’t want to watch the video or answer your question.
I try to live (imperfectly) by scripture.
What came to mind to me reading this was, ‘judge not lest you be judged.’
    Celebrities are false gods.
    Trump is a false god.
It is their choice to be such.
We, are all given free choice.
What we all do with this is what matters.
    God will decide the rest.
Not you, not me, not anyone.
    Thank God.

    • Honestly, Cindy, I believe it is the followers who idolized these celebrities and put them on a pedestal as gods. They did not plan it this way. Unfortunately, when they have so many people falling at their feet in adoration, false pride and arrogance easily gets into their hearts. I hope you will watch the video. It was quite interesting. Not everything I watch on Youtube, but this one needs our prayers because I think it is going to get worst. Thank you for taking the time to share on my post. I appreciate it and I adore your blog.

  11. I believe we should not place so much expectations on him as a new convert. Many Christians who claim to be born again after years of conversion are still struggling with one sin or the other.
We want to judge Kanye because he is a celebrity and his ’misdoings’ are out in the open.

More so, he even mentions the name of Jesus more than many gospel artists I know.
Jonah was angry when God asked him to preach to the people of Nineveh. He thought they were condemned and shouldn’t be saved.
Regardless of any past deed, God still saves.
With time, the fruits would show. we can only oray it ends well to the glory of God.

    • Yes, I agree with you. There are no sins that are too big that God cannot save. Kanye is no exception. If he repents and accepts Christ as his Savior with a sincere heart, God will save and deliver him. God knows his heart and he can fool people, but not God. Also, I want to say that speaking about God or always using Jeaus name in your songs does not necessarily means you are a true born again believer. There are many pastors in the pulpit who only have a form of godliness, but they do not know the true God. Thanks for your imput in the discussion.

  12. Wow great piece
As to now the church still got problem on how to address situations like this. I think this is also one of the major reason why an average Believer is still confused

    • So true. The Church is silent on many of these controversial issues. Even with this pandemic situation the Church needs to take a stand. Thanks for visiting and sharing your views.
