Understanding The True Meaning Of Christmas

2–3 minutes

What does Christmas means to you?

People has various interpretations of Christmas.

For some persons, it means a time to celebrate the birth of Christ while for others it is a time for reveling.

Some people only focus on the family gettogether, the gift exchange and the delicious food while there are some people who are indifferent and so Christmas is simply another day.

Personally, I see the Christmas season as a time of reflection, prayer and worship.

A time to worship

The special star in the East that night long ago signified that a king was born.

A king requires worship as a sign of reverence and honor to him.

The wise men’s greatest desire upon seeing this special star was to find the baby king to worship Him.

Even the lying king Herod claimed that he wanted the wise men to tell him the location of the baby so that he too could worship Him (Matthew 2:8).

At the birth of Jesus, a multitude of angels worshipped and praised God saying,

The shepherds, upon hearing the good news of the birth of Jesus from the angels, traveled many miles to see the baby Jesus, and upon arrival they worship Him (Luke 2:20).

December 25th may not be the exact date of Christ’s birth, and Jesus did not request that His followers celebrate His birthday, but the Bible states that God wants us to worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).

Therefore, the true meaning of Christmas is to worship the Lord.

How should you worship God?

Worship the Lord in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24).

Worship God in the beauty of holiness (1 Chronicles 16:29; Psalms 29:2; Psalms 96:9).

Worship the Lord in humility (Exodus 34:8; .

Worship the Lord with praise and thanksgiving (2 Chronicles 7:3; Psalms 66:4; Psalms 95:1)

Worship the Lord during times of afflictions (Job 1:20).

Worship the Lord in reverence (Psalms 5:7).

Worship the Lord in holiness at His footstool in His tabernacle and His holy hill (Psalms 99:5-9; Psalms 132:7).

I pray that you will receive the spirit of worship this Christmas season.
