Pray for the entire Caribbean islands that have been hit by the passage of Hurricane Melissa (Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, Bahamas).
Most of you might be aware of the monster hurricane Melissa that tore through the island of Jamaica on October 28th, leaving behind total devastation. It has been described as the most powerful Atlantic storms on record.
The beginning of hurricane Melissa
“Melissa formed from a tropical wave that was first monitored for development on October 16, 2025. The wave originated from West Africa, traveled from the central Atlantic to the Windward Islands, and then moved quickly westward into the Caribbean Sea, where it slowed down and developed into Tropical Storm Melissa on October 21.” (Wikipedia.org)
As it moved slowly within the Caribbean, it brought heavy rain to Haiti and Dominican Republic. It gradually developed over time (October 25 to 27) until it intensified rapidly just before it made landfall in Jamaica on October 28, 2025.
The hurricane made landfall directly into the western parishes of St Elizabeth, Trelawny, St James, Westmoreland, and Hanover at a wind speed of 185 mph (298 km/h).
Damages
Significant widespread damages throughout these parishes have been reported. The worst hit parish is St Elizabeth where the Jamaica Observer states that 90% of buildings are without roofs.
The communities within these parishes are without electricity and limited water and telecommunication services.
Four hospitals significantly damaged. They are Noel Holmes in Hanover, Black River in St Elizabeth, Cornwall Regional in St James, and Falmouth in Trelawny.

The government of Jamaica has launched an official website where you can donate towards the recovery process in Jamaica. Any help is greatly appreciated.

As you might know by now, I am a Jamaican living in the BVI for almost twenty -five years. I have family and friends in Jamaica so I am deeply concerned about their welfare and the entire island.
