You are loosed from your infirmity.

The English dictionary defines infirmity as a physical weakness or ailment.

But one particular meaning of infirmity from the strong Hebrew Concordance that stands out is: “to be made sick or to become weak.”

Therefore, infirmity can be a spiritual attack.

It can manifest in the form of a disease such as cancer. I believe that COVID was a spirit of infirmity that attack the entire world.

The spirit of infirmity can also come in the form of severe trials.

For example, when Jeremiah prophesied of the impending captivity and desolation of Judah he said, “Woe is me for my hurt! My wound is severe. But I say, “Truly this is an infirmity, and I must bear it.” (Jeremiah 10:19).

Jeremiah meant that the Jews had to endure persecution from the enemy because of their disobedience.

Satan attacked Job’s life with the spirit of infirmity (Job 1-2).

Thus, the spirit of infirmity is an attack from the enemy to weaken God’s people and to bring fear.

Jesus said that the thief does not come except to steal, kill, and destroy.

Before the enemy destroys, he will first weaken you.

He wants to weaken your body; he wants to weaken your mind and spirit and he wants to weaken your faith in God.

But thanks be to God, Jesus came to give us life and life more abundantly (John 10:10).

Jesus healed many sick people but in two special cases, the Bible highlights the spirit of infirmity.

Luke 13:10-17, states that while Jesus was teaching in the synagogue there was a woman with the spirit of infirmity for eighteen years. Jesus saw her and delivered her from this evil spirit.

In verse 16 of Luke 13, Jesus said that Satan had bound the woman for eighteen long years. Her body was so weak that she was bent over. She could not walk upright.

The man at the pool was crippled for 38 years as a result of his infirmity (John 5:5-7).

There is a spirit of infirmity that Satan is inflicting all over this earth and we need to pray against it.

Let us take a close look at how Jesus dealt with the spirit of infirmity.

Note that Jesus saw the woman in the crowd and identified her condition. He called her over to him and said, “Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity.”

Jesus also saw the man at the pool and selected him from among all the other sick folks and asked him, “Will you be made whole?”

When the man began to make excuses, Jesus simply said, “Take up your bed and walk.”

Immediately, the man gained the strength to do as Jesus commanded.

Hence, the shackles of the spirit of infirmity must be broken to deliver the victims and we must pray that God strengthen them to be totally free from its stronghold.

The gates of hell cannot prevail against the Church that is built upon the solid rock of Jesus Christ.

We are the Church!

Our bodies are the temple of God and so the gates of hell cannot prevail against our bodies where Christ dwells.

“And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 16:19 NKJV)

Whatever we speak from our lips will come to pass because we are given the keys to the kingdom of heaven.

Unfortunately, many of God’s people are using their mouths to bind up their brethren.

We must use our words to loosen the bonds that are holding people captive. We must speak words of encouragement to strengthen those who are afflicted.

We must also practice the fast that God prefers.

 “Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke?” (Isaiah 58:6 NKJV)

The Lord wants us to spend some time individually and collectively to feed the hungry, to invite to our house strangers and foreigners – those people who are poor and cast out.

He wants us to cover each other’s nakedness.

Don’t expose and gossip about our brothers’ and sisters’ weaknesses but help to restore them to God.

The Lord wants us to help when it is within the power of our hands to do so.

When we practice God’s fast this is what will happen:

“Then your light shall break forth like the morning, your healing shall spring forth speedily, and your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.” (Isaiah 58:8)

The spirit of infirmity can be prevented

The man at the pool did not know who had healed him but later when Jesus revealed Himself to him, He said, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.” (John 5:14).

So apparently the spirit of infirmity attacked this man because of sin in his life.

If we open doors for the enemy to enter, he will wreak havoc in our lives.

Therefore, give no place to the devil. In everything that we say or do, give no place to the devil (Ephesians 4:24-28).

We are not saying that every sickness is a result of sin.

We are saying that if we give place to the devil he will come into our lives with all manner of evil.

No doctors or medicine can cure you from the spirit of infirmity. Only the Lord can deliver you from it.

Therefore, we must remain sheltered in the secret place of the Most High God.

The secret place of God is a place of intimacy with Him. It is a place of refuge where the Lord will hide and protect you from the enemy.

Psalms 27:4-5 NKJV says, “One thing I have desired of the Lord that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple. For in the time of trouble, He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle, He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.”

Psalms 31:20 NKJV says “You shall hide them in the secret place of your presence from the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongue.” This verse means that man will plot with Satan to harm the people of God.”

The secret place of God is in your prayer closet.

Jesus said: “But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” (Matthew 16:17-18 NKJV).

“When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift a standard against him.” (Isaiah 59:19 NKJV). The standard of God is a way of escape that He will provide for us when the enemy attack.

The standard of God is the Lord Jesus Christ who will deliver us from the enemy.

Jesus said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” (John 11:4 NKJV)

This spirit of infirmity can only come out through prayer and fasting. (Matthew 17:21)

This evil spirit can be broken by the Lord Jesus Christ. He has done it over and over again and He will do it again.

Prayer

Mighty God “Oh, how great is your goodness, which you have laid up for those who fear you, which you have prepared for those who trust in you in the presence of the sons of men!” (Psalms 31:19 NKJV)

Lord, we thank you that you are seated in heavenly places, “far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” (Ephesians 1:20-23)

We thank you, O God, that you have given us the authority to tread upon the young lions and the serpent. We thank you that when we dwell in your secret place no evil will befall us.

We thank you that you are our hiding place so that when the enemy comes in like a flood you will raise a standard against him. You will create an escape for us.

We come against this evil spirit that is attacking this earth and we declare that no weapon that forms against us will prosper and every tongue that rises against us we have the authority to condemn in the mighty name of Jesus.
