Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. (Mark 13:33)

We do not know the day or the hour when Jesus will return but we know that He is definitely returning.

Therefore, we can only wait for His return, but while we are waiting we need to pray while watching.

The night is divided into four watches, each requiring a specific type of prayer. This post will examine the fourth watch of the night and its significance.

The Fourth Watch or the Morning Watch (3 am to 6 am) (Victory) Matthew 14:25; 1 Samuel 11:11

The Lord will fight against your enemy on the fourth watch of the night. Therefore, you can celebrate victory on this watch.

^“And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.” (1 Samuel 11:11)

During the morning watch, the Lord will look down on the enemy and trouble them. He will halt their movements and drive them into difficulties until they flee from your presence (Exodus 14: 24-25)

Other significant benefits of the fourth watch

The Lord made provision for His people in the evening and the morning (Exodus 16:12)

All evil altars and idols will be destroyed in the morning watch (Judges 6:28).

And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord, and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him. (1 Samuel 5:4)

“The morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy.” (Job 38:7).

Therefore, let the Lord hear your voice as you offer up thanksgiving to Him for a new day (Psalms 143:8) . “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.” (Psalms 5:3)

The night of mourning and weeping will not last because joy comes in the morning.

The Lord’s mercies are renewed every morning. Great is His faithfulness (Psalms 92:2; Lamentations 3:23).

“But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.” (Psalms 59:16)

The Lord gives us revelations in the morning (Ezekiel 12:8; 33:22). “The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.” (Isaiah 50:4)

Healing will occur speedily in the morning when you practice the fast that God has chosen (Isaiah 58)

“Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy reward.” (Isaiah 58:8)

It was early in the morning that the women went to the tomb and found Jesus’ grave opened because He arose from the dead (Mark 16:2)

Jesus declared victory on the fourth watch of the night when He walked upon the waters.

“And He saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night, He cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.” (Mark 6:48)

After Jesus spent the entire day teaching the people, He went away to pray throughout the four watches of the night. During this time the boat that the disciples were in was caught in a terrible storm.

At the fourth watch of the night, Jesus received His breakthrough and went to meet the disciples walking on top of the turbulent sea.

The sea represents the evil one, the trials, and the tribulations. But, triumphantly Jesus trampled the enemy under His feet.

Declare your victory on the fourth watch of the night.

You can join with Christ in victory when you have faith, keep your eyes on Him, and do not look at the stormy sea around you.

You can invite Jesus into your boat/life/home so that He will calm the storms in your life.

You can worship the Son of God who came to save us and gives us abundant life.

The morning watch is the optimal time that you can reach out in faith and touch the hem of Jesus’ garment “and as many as touch it were made perfectly well” (Matthew 14:36B)

You can declare victory when you pray during the fourth watch of the night.
