Throughout the ages many people have been fascinated by the vast expanse of the heavens and whether there is an end to the universe.

The universe is the final frontier for men to explore thoroughly but they lack the advanced technology to travel at the speed of light to reach the distant stars.

Furthermore, humans are limited by their physical bodies which are created to be confined to the earthly realm. The further the body travels into the deep outer space the more it will deteriorate.

However, these limitations do not prevent men from seeking other unorthodox means to achieve their goals. One such method is to find a stargate or an open door that leads directly into heaven bypassing time and space.

As fascinating as it may sound, the possibility does exist because there was a man who stumbled upon the secret to unlock the stargate to heaven.

He found the keys to enter directly into the throne room of God.

The man who found the key to open heaven’s door

Jacob was running away from his brother, Esau, who threatened to kill him because of his deceitfulness in robbing his birthright.

He was running to a relative whom he knew very little about and was clueless to the tremendous trials that awaited him at his destination.

During his long journey from Beersheba to Haran (over five hundred miles), Jacob most likely took the time to self-reflect and repent of his sins.

The Bible did not specifically state this but given the nature of the event that follows one can safely assume that he prayed deeply concerning his situation.

When Jacob reached a certain distance in his journey he decided to tarry all night to get some rest.

The nights in the desert can be cold. Jacob had his cloak as covering to shield him from the open elements but he did not have the luxury of a feather pillow to lay his head.

So Jacob decided to search for the smoothest stone that he could find to be his pillow for the night.

Rocks are hard but they are solid and will anchor the body during sleep. But this rock offered Jacob much more than comfort.

Unbeknown to him the rock was the key to unlocking the gates of heaven.

That night the heavens opened and Jacob saw a ladder that connect directly from heaven to earth where the angels were climbing up and down this stairway. It was a supernatural connection between heaven and earth.

The Lord stood at the top of the stairway and said to Jacob,

“I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants. ¹⁴ Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth! They will spread out in all directions—to the west and the east, to the north and the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants. ¹⁵ What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.” (Genesis 28:13-15 NLT)

When Jacob opened the gates to heaven he received a reinforcement of the promises of God for his future.

You too can open the gates of heaven by accessing the same key that Jacob used to enter.

Accessing an open heaven

First, you must be willing to leave Beersheba, a place of self-centeredness, where you only rely on yourself, to travel to Haran (the mountain of God).

This is the place of total reliance on God.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. (Psalms 121:1-2)

When you reach the mountain top, tarry there as long as it takes for you to receive your breakthrough.

You will need a solid rock to be your stabilizer. This rock is not a literal stone.

This rock is the Lord Jesus Christ.

There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. (1 Samuel 2:2)

Jesus Christ is the rock of our salvation and through Him is direct access into an open heaven. The rock contains nourishment and living water to satisfy your thirst forever (Exodus 17:6; Numbers 20:8; Psalms 78:15-16; John 4).

The rock is a protection against the forces of darkness. In times of trouble, the Lord will establish you upon the rock in His hiding place (Psalms 27:5).

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. (Psalms 18:2)

Your speedy deliverance is in the rock. Guidance and leadership are found in the Rock (Psalms 31:2-3).

Rest assured that your foundation is solid when you built it upon the rock of the Lord Jesus Christ (Psalms 62:2-6; Matthew 7)

When you rest upon the rock of Jesus Christ, the heavens will be opened to you. Similar to Jacob you will have dreams and visions.

Above all, you will see the Lord high and lifted up in all His glory where you will have sweet communion in the richness of His presence.

“How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!” (Genesis 28:17)
