The prophet Jeremiah recounted his life as a prophet of God.

As a prophet, he had to bear the afflictions of God’s prophetic Word in his flesh.

Jeremiah said that the Lord was like an enemy to Israel when He judged them harshly for their iniquity.

Jeremiah lamented that God swallowed up Israel and demolished its palaces and fortresses (Lamantation 2:5).

God commissioned Jeremiah to warn Israel of their impending doom.

But, throughout his entire assignment he was ridiculed and persecuted by the people.

Jeremiah felt rejected, desolate and forsaken.

He felt as if God had enclosed him and placed a heavy chain on him.

He felt that God had blocked his path and refused to answer when he cried out to Him (Lamentation 3:7-9).

But, despite the prophet’s anguish, he still maintained his hope in God.

Jeremiah spoke these comforting words from a place of brokenness.

Although Jeremiah’s flesh was chastised, his soul remembered the goodness of God. He took comfort in knowing that the Lord was his portion forever.

Many of us can agree that trials will weakened our flesh, but we can have hope that the mercy of God is renewed every morning and is compassion will never fail.

For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
