Your survival depends on how close you stick to the Father.

Have you ever noticed how protective a brooding hen is towards her chicks?

A mother hen is very defensive and is always alert to any signs of danger.

She is ready to attack anyone or anything that she feels is a threat to her chicks.

A mother hen will sacrifice her life for her children!

She will viciously try to fight a predator who is larger and stronger than herself even if she has to die in the process.

When observing the mother hen and her chicks it is noted that only the chicks who stick close to her usually survive.

Sometimes one or two of these chicks will wander away and become lost.

Soon the lost chicks will be eaten by an animal or bird or get run over by a motor vehicle.

Any time there are signs of danger, the chicks who are close to the mother will run under her wings and be covered.

Unfortunately, those chicks who wander far from mom are often, due to fright, unable to locate the clucking sounds of the mother.

The yard of the last apartment that I lived in was overrun with wild chickens.

The hens would lay their eggs in the bushes and occasionally you would see a very aggressive mother hen emerged with a brood of chicks.

If she came out with ten chicks only one or two would survive to maturity.

The writer of Psalms 91, keenly observed the protective nature of the mother hen with her chicks and it occurred to him that this was the same way God is protective of His children.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! (Luke 13:34)

During the nights, the hen will gather her chicks under her wings and enclose them completely except for their little eyes that you sometimes see peaking out.

So it is with the Lord our Father.

He will enfold you under the feathers of His wings and you can trust in the strength of His mighty wings.

The truth of God’s Word is like His wings that will also shield you from the fiery darts of the wicked one.

During the nights, it is important that the chicks remain quietly under the protective wings of their mother because predators lurk in the dark to gobble up the little ones.

Satan and his evil spirits are the predators that seek to destroy the children of God.

Satan has specific predators that specialize in the morning, mid-day, evening and night.

The terror by night is any form of a sudden attack in the night whether by sickness, natural disasters, bad news, deaths, etc.

The pestilences that walk in the darkness are plagues and the destroying angels similar to the ten plagues that God sent on the Egyptians.

Destructions that waste at noonday are anything that will devastate and cause ruin at noon or midday.

The Hebrew word for noon is tsohar which also means happiness or blessings (Strong concordance).

Thus, the statement could also mean anything that seeks to destroy your blessings or happiness.

The arrows that fly by day include the fiery darts of the wicked and the birds that fly around in circles seeking to devour the seeds of the Word of God that are sown in your hearts.

The vultures also linger around ready to eat your flesh.

The locusts attack in swarms to devour and consume everything in their path.

These predators attack by the thousands.

But, as long as you are under the wings of God when they rush at you they will fall before they can harm you.

Only your eyes that are peeking through the feathers of God’s wings will see the destruction of the wicked.

Therefore, as long as you remain under the protective wings of God, as long as you dwell in the secret place of God, as long as you make the Lord your habitation, no forms of evil will befall you.

This protection also extends to your family because the Lord will not allow any plagues to come near your homes.

Your Father will also delegate battalions of angels to surround your life and home.

These angels will bear you up if you fall so that you will not dash your feet against the stones.

The angels will be in charge of fighting the enemy on your behalf.

They will keep and protect you in everything that you do.

The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth and even for evermore. (Psalms 121:8).

Praise the Lord!

Furthermore, your Father will empower you to thread upon the lion and serpent and also to trample the dragon under your feet.

You must survive in this world when you stick close to the Father and develop a relationship with Him.

You will survive the wilderness, the fiery trials and the storms of life when you know and trust your Father.

You will not only survive, but you will be satisfied with a long life.
