A riot is a noisy, violent disorderly group of people protesting against something. They usually exhibit lawless and raucous behavior, which most times result in crime and violence.
The bottom line is that you do not want to find yourself in the midst of a riot. However, if you do, how can you escape?
And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto Him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written,
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
And He closed the book, and He gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on Him. And He began to say unto them, this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. (Luke 4:16-21)
The Lord Jesus Christ officially began His ministry when He proclaimed to His friends and family that He was anointed by God to save and deliver humanity.
However, this great news created a commotion within the synagogue because Jesus’ kinsmen could only see Him as the carpenter’s son rather than who He claimed to be.
They could not see beyond Jesus’ past to see His destiny. So, they chased Jesus from His own town.
A prophet is never accepted in His own country!
How many of God’s people can attest to this situation?
Your past can never be erased from the mind of the people who you grew up with.
It does not matter who you have become or what you have accomplished in life, they will always remember you as “Miss Dotti’s son who use to steal mangoes” or “Mary Jane who dropped out of high school because of pregnancy.”
These small-minded people are within your community, within your household, within your churches, within your district, within your country.
They cannot see you as God sees you – a man/woman of integrity with a great future.
Thus, like Joseph, they will destroy your dream with their spiteful negative words and they will even throw you into the pit or sell you into slavery.
But, what the devil meant for bad God will turn it into good!
Just follow the example of Christ and do what He did.
The angry mob rose up against Jesus and threw Him out of the city.
They dragged Jesus to the edge of a cliff to threw Him over so that He would burst His head against a stone and die.
But Jesus did something remarkable!
Jesus knew it was not time for Him to die.
So, with superhuman strength, Jesus shrugged off His attackers and simply walked through the midst of the angry crowd and continued on His way.
Not one of His attackers could touch Him!
My friend, when the anointing is upon your life, do not be afraid to declare it.
Do not be afraid of the accusers or the attackers because neither man nor devil can hinder the plan that God has for your life.
So, hold your head high and walk through the midst of the riot. (See Luke 4:22-30)
