Get Out Of The Valley Of Achor And Arise To Conquer Ai

Sometimes we may foolishly believe that we can harbor hidden sins in our lives and then face the enemy.

But, it is a fact that if we encourage sin in our lives, any kind of sin including disobedience and stubbornness, we will lose the protection of God and we will become vulnerable to the onslaught of the enemy.

An example of this was seen after Joshua and children of Israel destroyed the city of Jericho. The Lord forbid them to take any of the accursed things in the city (Joshua 7).

However, Achan became greedy and hid some of the spoils in his tent. The Lord became angry and punished the Israelites with an embarrassing defeat from the enemy.

When Joshua enquired of the Lord the reason for his defeat from such a small city, the Lord told him that the people had sinned because they took the accursed things in the land.

Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.

Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you anymore, except ye destroy the accursed from among you. (Joshua 7:11-12)

Joshua made a searched among the people and they discovered Achan. His excuse for taking some of the spoils was that he could not resist the expensive and beautiful Babylonian garments, the gold and silver. So he stole them and hid them thinking that God will not discover him.

So it is with some people. They cannot resist the worldly temptations. Hence, they become consumed with lust and greed. They covet, cheat and steal to acquire wealth. They believe that no one sees their actions.

However, God sees and He knows and He will expose them so that enemy consumes them if they do not repent.

Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the Lord God of Israel, there is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies until ye take away the accursed thing from among you. (Joshua 7:13)

Let us examine our lives to ensure we are not hiding the accursed things of this world in our lives. Let us ask the Lord to search us and see if there are any wicked ways in us and purge us and lead us in His everlasting way (Psalms 139:23-24)

Get out of the valley of Achor (trouble, sorrow) and arise, go up and conquer Ai (city of ruins)!

15 For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.

16 But the other Jews that were in the king’s provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the prey, Esther 9:10,15,16 (KJV)

  2. That is what sin does it creates defeat, setbacks, shame and death. May we constantly repent from known and unknown sin. May our heart refuse the worldly excitements and seek after Jesus Christ.

    • Yes, indeed, sin is a setback in our lives. This time that we have under lock down is the perfect opportunity to go on our knees in repentance to the Lord. Thank you for finding that post and highlighting it. That post is one of my favorite.

      • You are welcome. It is an important post I don’t know how i have missed that post before. If we really focus on our inner man and seek to scrub, eradicate, kill, destroy and rip sin from our lives we will see a better us. I love to challenge myself and don’t get comfortable. One thing I have learn’t is that the closer we get to God the more we see how sinful we are. It is like taking a cloth that looks clean and put it beside another one and
there is not much of a difference they both look clean but when we put it beside a brand new clean cloth then the difference will show up. The sinful us getting in the presence of the Holy God. Isaiah said woe is me for i am undone, I am a man of unclean lips.
May God show us the idols of our heart and help us to kill the Achan spirit, (the lust of the flesh, lust of the eye and the pride of life)

      • That post was written a long time ago before we met. I like the anology you stated about the cloth. Our problem in the church is that we compare ourselves to each other so we believe in our hearts that we are cleaner than the other person.

But as you said when we compare our lives to Jesus it does not matter how clean we thought we are, the real state of our hearts will appear and all we can do is to repent. During this crucial time it is important that the church remain in constant prayer and repentance. Thank you, Maurice.

      • You are welcome Beverley we must be in constant prayer and repentance. Jesus is Holy and we as Christians must seek to attain unto this holiness. Without holiness no man shall see God
