After the Lord had created the animals, He took them to Adam to give each of them a name. In other words, Adam gave the animals their identity. I believe that Adam was able to communicate with each of the animals and instruct them in their daily activities.

Indeed, God told the man and woman that they should have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air and over every living thing that moves on the earth (Genesis 1:28).

God gave the man authority to rule the earth. God created the heavens and earth in wisdom and great power. Then He bestowed this power upon man to dominate and control the earth because He created man in His image and likeness. Adam and Eve also had unique knowledge of the plants and animals.

Unfortunately, all of this wisdom and knowledge were lost when the man gave away his authority to the serpent. Fortunately for us, God made provision to reinstate us back to our original status through the Lord Jesus Christ. He has the spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge and the fear of the Lord. (Isaiah 11:1.3)

Eventually, men gain knowledge in technology, the human body, plants and animals and the universe at large. As a result, we can appreciate the unique characteristics of plants and animals and incorporate them into our lives. For example, the migrating geese teach us about unity and teamwork and we can learn strength and stability from the eagle.

The love birds are no exception. These birds are small parrots about five to six inches in length. Eight species of these birds originated from Africa and one from Madagascar. They can live up to fifteen years. Perhaps their loving nature gives them this long life span.

They have a very friendly and curious personality, and bond close to each other. Some scientists believe that they bond closer to their owner as a single pet than when they are in pairs.

Lovebirds do not mimic human speech as other parrots, but they chirp a lot. They are very curious and intelligent and love to investigate and learn new things. They are fearless little birds and will not back away from a challenge. Their diet consists of nutritious food such as grains, fresh vegetables, fruits, seeds and pellets.

Before the love birds mate, they first find a suitable house to build their nest. They stick to a monogamous relationship and spend their entire life together. The couple is very affectionate and is often cuddling, kissing, feeding each other and playing together.

Let us examine the lessons that we can learn from these little birds. Our human intelligence appeared to make our life complicated. Therefore, we need to get back to basic and learn to enjoy the simple things in life. If these birds can enjoy a happy and lasting marriage, then we can also experience it by learning the characteristics of these birds.

• Create an intimate bond with your spouse by communication and affection.
• Be flexible and willing to learn new things.
• Be fearless and protect each other.
• Maintain a healthy lifestyle by exercising and eating nutritious food.
• Build your house together and ensure your foundation is firm. The most solid foundation is built on the rock of Jesus Christ.
• When you are building your house, focus on comfort instead of size. Also on warmth and coziness instead of style.
• Above all be faithful to each other and stick together. Play together, laugh with each other and enjoy each other’s company. Lavish each other with lots of love, affection, caresses and kisses. Money and material things are not a necessity for true happiness.
• The wedding ring and lavish ceremony do not guarantee a lasting marriage. The love birds are typical examples of this. As a matter of fact, the Lord explicitly told us that the birds of the air do not sow or reap or gather into barns, yet our heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they? Will the Lord not much more clothe, feed and provide for you, Oh you of little faith? (Matthew 6:25-34)

Let us, therefore, return to the simpler things in life and allow God to teach us how to live like the birds and enjoy a longer and more fulfilling life. How hard can this be? If the lovebirds can do it, we can do it too.
