The first Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in August, the Virgin Islands celebrate emancipation from slavery.

Slavery was abolished in the English speaking Caribbean countries on August 1, 1834.

However, historical evidences revealed that the slaves were not actually free, but were still in bondage for many more years.

The truth revealed that emancipation was deceptive freedom.

In spite of this, every English speaking Caribbean countries celebrate emancipation day in the first week of August.

They celebrate with all the glamour and festivities unique to the Caribbean people.

The fact is that none of us was born perfect and so we have all been shackled by some form of burden or sin.

Some of us have been delivered while many people are still entangled.

Unfortunately, some of these people are unaware that they are still enslaved.

The dictionary defines freedom as the state of being absolutely free, which means enjoying personal rights and liberty.

Many countries claim that they are free nations, but in reality people do not have the absolute right to speak freely or to voice their opinions.

A great example of this occurred during the COVID era when persons who spoke against the official narrative were silenced and their You tube channels forcefully deleted.

However, there is a freedom that can never be corrupted or destroyed.

True Freedom

This freedom is found in Jesus Christ!

Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. (John 8:34-36 NKJV)

Once you have been delivered by the Son of God, you can enjoy your freedom without guilt or restrain.

This freedom will never be taken from you.

If you have lost your freedom it is because you have returned to the bondage of sin.

Stand fast, therefore, in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1 NKJV)

You are free to enjoy your freedom!

Enjoying Your Liberty

You can testify of your freedom with confidence because…

Once you were a sinner, but now you are saved by the grace of God.

Once you were disobedient, but now have obtained mercy.

Once you were far off, but now you are brought near by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Once you were in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. You are free to walk as children of the light.

Once you were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, but now you have been reconciled by God.

Once you were fearful but now you have received the love of God which drives away fear.

Once you were weak but now you are strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

Once you were foolish but you have asked God for wisdom and He has given it to you freely and without reservation.

Once you were guilty and filled with shame, but now you have forgotten the shame of your youth, and will never remember the reproach of your widowhood anymore (Isaiah 54:4).

Once you were in bondage, but now you have been set free by the blood of Jesus Christ.

If you are free let me hear you say,

“THANK YOU, LORD!”
