We are living in God’s time and His time is a time of mercy.

The Lord does not tolerate sins, but He will pardon you when you repent because mercy is part of the character of God. Therefore, similar to God Himself, the mercy of God is changeless and is everlasting.

In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the Lord thy Redeemer. (Isaiah 54:8)

But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children; to such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them. (Psalms 103:17-18)

Mercy was a pivotal part of the worship during the Old Testament period. The Lord told Moses to make a mercy seat of pure gold and two cherubim of gold.

The cherubim and the mercy seat were carved from on piece of wood.

Each cherub was placed at the end of the mercy seat facing each other with their faces toward the mercy seat and their wings above and covering the mercy seat. (See Exodus 25:17-22)

The mercy seat covered the Ark of the Testimony, which contains the testimony of God.

And thou shalt put the mercy seat above upon the ark; and in the ark thou shalt put the testimony that I shall give thee. And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel. (Exodus 25:21-22

The Lord told Moses that He would meet and speak with Him above the mercy seat.

The significance of this is important to us because the tabernacle and all the elements inside the tabernacle were copies of the temple of the Lord in heaven. (Revelation 11:19)

The Lord gave Moses specific instructions on how he should build the tabernacle and its contents. He also gave Moses instructions on how the sacrifices should be done.

They all represented the physical form of worship and was a shadow of the greater things that would come through Jesus Christ.

The mercy seat, therefore, symbolized an open relationship with God and man.

The blood of Jesus Christ was sprinkled on the mercy seat in heaven when, as our High Priest, He made atonement for our sins.

We are therefore covered under the blood of Jesus Christ and we live by the mercy and grace of God.

Thus, you can boldly walk through the gates of heaven with thanksgiving and enter the presence of God in His sanctuary with praise.

For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations. (Psalms 100:5)
