  5. This question of your Beverley is a big and important one. “Do you think that a true prophet of God must be called by God or can you learn to be a prophet?” The thing that came to my thought is that we must first know the fruits because king Saul was after David to kill him and when he heard where David was. Saul went there and he entered into the presence of some prophets and strip naked and prophesied all day. There was scripture before were Saul before he was actual king he enter the company of prophets and prophesied and it was asked is Saul among the prophets. One thing that make me very careful for years now is 1 Kings chapter 13 where the young prophet obeyed God throughout and at the end obeyed the old prophet who told him a lie and then prophesied his doom. Remember Beverley the Bible also tell us about the school of prophets that Elisha had.

    1. I see where what you mean Maurice and i feel same way about 1 Kings 13.

Very well said Beverley. I have heard and witnessed those prophecies and it breaks my heart to see how gullible some believers can be. Thanks for shinning light in this area and for raising awareness about this. Blessings to you

      1. Wow! yes Efua years ago I read it and always refer back to it. It is important that we open our eyes. After I wrote the response to Beverley I was thinking a lot of things. First the Bible didn’t say the man was a false prophet he might have lost his way like the Priest Eli but you see the gift operated after he told the young prophet the lie. second in the Bible Peter said “rather to obey God than man” What the old prophet told the young prophet wasn’t confirm in the young prophet spirit if we look at the response of the young prophet but he still obeyed the old prophet and died.

      2. It is such a deep scripture with so many lessons for us to learn from bro. The gifts of God have to be used in obedience to Him

      3. Yes you are so right Efua the gifts God give us must be used in line with obedience that is why in Numbers 22 Balaam lose out. If you check the scripture on the accuracy and beauty of his prophecy but because of self and greed his lost his way.

      4. Maurice, you mentioned Balaam and this is significant. Balaam had a spirit of divination. He was consulting with God but he was greedy and love the wages of unrighteousness. This is similar to some of our prophets today. They have the spirit of Balaam. Many of them even though they can preach and prophecy with eloquence and beauty, they will lost their way due to greed.

      5. That is so true Beverley. Balaam was a true prophet because he was able to hear from God but when his heart get corrupted God no longer speak to him. He did not lose the gift but it was now under the control of the devil. That is what is happening in our world today. The funny thing is they some of these people read these same scripture and still desire to become greedy. I believe when people submit themselves to God and allow themselves to be process by God it would be difficult to walk in those kind of error

      6. It is important that we understand that a person can be anointed initially by God, but lost his way. We have to test the spirit to know. Thank you Maurice for these additional insights.

      7. Very true Beverley and no matter who we must try the spirit. Remember when Paul was preaching and the Bereans in Acts 17: 11 when they search the scripture if the things said was true. The word of God is the foundation on which we try the spirit. It is important to know the word and be sensitive to the Holy Spirit to be effective in trying the spirit.

      8. I find that many Christians are not willing to search the scriptures as the Bereans. Notice that most people do not even write down the scriptures when the Word is taught or preached in church.

      9. Yes, it is truly amazing the gullibility of some Christians. The bible said My people are destroyed because of lack of knowledge. In today’s society where knowledge is at our fingertip we should be wiser. Thank you also for your inspiring post. I hope it will reach many people as possible.

    2. The anointing of God can make you prophesy, but you are not necessarily called to be a prophet. Amos said that he was not a prophet and his father was not a prophet, but God called him to prophesy to the people to warn them of impending judgment. These days, a lot of Christians view a prophet as a prestigious position and try to learn it similar to any other secular position. Thank you for sharing. I appreciate it.

      1. Yes that is true Saul was anointed king by the servant of God Samuel and he did prophesy. The Bible tell us in 1 Corinthians 14: 39 “Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues” this is a good thing but the enemy have twisted it and as you used the word prestigious position. Many see it that way through the eyes of the flesh because of what they can gain. A true prophet have passed through fire, faced rejection, isolation. I know that Elisha had school of the prophets but I believe it was to sharpen those who were called to be prophets. A true prophet can be used differently from another. When you take for example Jeremiah who would prophesy and weep and Ezekiel who God would tell to eat dung, lay on his side for 390 days to bear the iniquity of Israel (Ezekiel 4) Both were prophets but we see a difference in how God used Ezekiel in a symbolic manner. We don’t know how God would want to use us therefore anyone trying to learn this position like a secular position are setting up themselves to become a stumbling-block in the body of Christ.

      2. Well said, Maurice. I hope this post will inspire you to write a post about identifying a true prophet of God. You have some detailed information here. We need to get the word out as best as possible because many christians are being deceived by these so called prophets. Another prophet who had to live his prophetic words was Hosea. Imagine being told by God to marry a prostitute? How many of these wealthy prophets would do this? They would not lower themselves to do this. They want trophy wives. Note God specifically told Hosea to marry her not to have an affair with her.

I hope you are having a blessed day today. Are you in vacation from work?

  9. Thanks for sharing this Beverley. There are false prophets out there we must beware of. Many pastors are also guilty of just telling people what they want to hear in their sermons Sunday after Sunday.

    1. This is so true Dawn. The pastors will be made accountable for teaching false doctrines and for inviting those false prophets into the church to fleece the sheep. It is sad, but we need to pray even more. Blessings to you.

      1. Amen prayers are needed. 2 Chronicles 7:14 just came to my mind. “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

      2. That is a special verse that we need to heed to. The healing of the land is totally dependent on God’s people.
