In the Old Testament, only the sanctified high priest could make atonement for sins.

One of the meanings of atonement from the Hebrew root word kaphar is to cancel. (Strong Hebrew/Greek Concordance)

In the Levitical laws, the high priest had to make atonement for the sins of the people with the blood of a sin offering upon the horns of the altar once every year (Exodus 30:10).

The sacrifice of animals could not cancel sin so the ritual had to be repeated year after year.

But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. (Hebrews10:3)

Finally, one glorious never-to-be-forgotten day, God became flesh, born of a virgin woman and dwell among humans.

God came to earth to become the final sacrificial Lamb.

His death was once to cleanse the world from sin and iniquity.

But the blood of Jesus Christ not only cleansed, but it also canceled or disannulled your sins forever.

Seven days thou shalt make an atonement for the altar, and sanctify it; and it shall be an altar most holy: whatsoever toucheth the altar shall be holy. (Exodus 29:37)

When you reach out and touch the sacrificial altar of the Lord Jesus Christ you will be made holy.

The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the Lord, to make an atonement for your souls. (Exodus 30:15)

Christ’s atonement cancels every sin equally –  Day seven of our fourteen days of prayer.

Today’s prayer is taken from Hebrews 10.

Let us pray

Heavenly Father, we thank you for choosing us for redemption through the Lord Jesus Christ.

We thank you that He paid the price once for all sins and is now seated at your right hand.

By one offering, the Lord has made us perfect and holy to your praise and glory.

Thank you, Jesus!

We thank you that you have canceled our sins and we are free from the past burden.

You remember our sins no more and so there is no need for any more offering for sin.

Thank you, Jesus!

Lord, because of your atonement we can enter with boldness the holiest place of God.

Therefore,

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)  And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: (Hebrews 10:22-24)
