A few days ago someone said something and I became upset.
I was about to retaliate in sarcastic way when my daughter stopped me and said,
“Mom don’t strike the rock when you are suppose to speak to it.”
At first I did not see how this statement was related to the situation.
Then I recalled the incident in the Bible when Moses struck the rock instead of speaking to it.
Moses allowed an angry complaining crowd to bring out the worst in him ( See Numbers 20).
Who else can relate to this?
Sometimes we allow the worst in people to bring out the worst in us.
Since you insulted me I am going to insult you back.
If you stepped on my toe, I will find a way at some point in time to step on yours also.
The human nature always seems to crave revenge.
When we are faced with these trying circumstances oftentimes we forget to leave vengeance to the Lord and just strike the rock with a heavy blow.
How do we feel afterwards?
Do we gain a sense of satisfaction?
Or do we feel a rushing sense of remorse and regret like Moses?
If you are facing a heavy rock that is blocking your pathway to progress, a stumbling block that is hindering your succsess or perhaps it is a stone that sealed the entrance to your freedom, don’t try to beat upon the rock.
Don’t even try to roll the stone away because it might be too heavy for you and you will strain yourself both spiritually and physically.
Instead, I want you to speak to the rock.
Prophecy life into the dead stones and say,
“O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:
And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the Lord. (Ezekiel 37:4-6)
That mountain of stones that is standing in the way of your miracle can be torn down when you rise up in faith and say,
“Mountain, move out of my way.”
And the mountain will move and nothing will be impossible for you. (Matthew 17:20)
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, “Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. (Numbers 20:7-8)
Rise up and speak to your rock!
