Salt of the Earth

1–2 minutes

Salt is good and has many uses, and since ancient times in many cultures was used as a seasoning, a preservative, a disinfectant, as well as a unit of exchange.

In the Bible, metaphorically, salt came to symbolize purity, perfection, wisdom, hospitality, durability, value, and fidelity.

In the Old Testament, it was used in ceremonial offerings often referred to as a “covenant of salt”, which signified an everlasting covenant. It would become known as a symbol of incorruptibility and permanence.

You are the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13)
You are the salt of the earth. (Matthew 5:13)

In the New Testament, there are many references to salt. One of them is the story of Jesus Christ referring to his followers as the “salt of the earth” in Matthew 5:13, when He stated,

“Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

So as children of God and followers of Jesus Christ let the words we speak and the lives we live be seasoned with salt and be likened to what Jesus would say as being the salt of the earth.

Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. (Colossians 4:6 )

Mark 9:50 – Salt is good: but if the salt has lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

Stay salty my friend.
