Trials are a part of life! We were brought up to believe this statement, so we expected problems throughout our lives.

But, this is a lie from the pit of hell!

According to dictionary.com, trials is the state of a person being tested or having grievous troubles or distress.

There are different types of tests, and they can be acquired or inherited.

You may be wondering how it is possible to inherit trials, but the Bible tells us about generational curses where the parents sins can pass down from generation to generation if the curse is not broken. (Exodus 20:5; Deuteronomy 5:9)

God is merciful, and He can break that curse upon your family when you are obedient to Him (Jeremiah 14:20; 32:18; Ezekiel 18:17).

There is a penalty for all sins, so if you practice iniquity in your lifetime, you will receive the retribution while you are alive, or it can also pass to your children.

If the children confess their parent’s sins to God, the Lord will forgive them, and the penalty will not fall on the kids or grandchildren.

Trials and persecutions can either come from the enemy (Satan), God or by you. Most of our trials are attacks from the enemy. He will attack anyone who has accepted Christ as their Saviour.

The devil covets your soul so he will tempt you with worldly pleasures and persecute to forsake God (Job 1&2).

 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair, persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.

Always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So then death is working in us, but life in you. (2 Corinthians 4:7-12)

You will definitely not be crushed by the trials of the enemy because there is a secret place in God where you can be sheltered (Psalms 91).

Will a loving God gives us trials?

If you have forsaken the covenant that you made with God by disobedience and rebellion, the Lord will lift His hedge of protection over your life and allow the enemy to have his way with you.

Fortunately, the Lord will always be with you during these tough times ready and willing to forgive and accept you back into His protection.

Why Would I give myself problems?

You can also have trials because of your personal choices. For example, if you choose to steal and murder you already know the consequences of these actions.

Likewise, if you decide to marry someone out of the will of God, you will suffer the penalties.

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14)  

Regardless of the type and source of your trials, you can receive rest from all of it.

The Israelites received rest from the enemy after they entered the Promise Land and conquered the enemies.

 “You shall not at all do as we are doing here today—every man doing whatever is right in his own eyes— for as yet you have not come to the rest and the inheritance which the Lord your God is giving you. But when you cross over the Jordan and dwell in the land which the Lord your God is giving you to inherit, and He gives you rest from all your enemies round about, so that you dwell in safety,  then there will be the place where the Lord your God chooses to make His name abide.

There you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the heave offerings of your hand, and all your choice offerings which you vow to the Lord. And you shall rejoice before the Lord your God, you and your sons and your daughters, your male and female servants, and the Levite, who is within your gates since he has no portion nor inheritance with you. (Deuteronomy 12:8-12)

While the Israelites were in the wilderness, they were tried and tested by God to teach them humility and obedience.

The generation that came out of Egypt except for Caleb and Joshua all perished in the wilderness because they failed to be obedient and faithful to God.

Their children inherited the Promise Land. But, while they were in the desert they were not perfect because many of them were still unruly.

However, Moses assured them that when they entered the Promise Land, the Lord will give them rest from the enemies so that they will dwell in safety.

Then they would build their homes, offer sacrifices to God, and rejoice in the Lord.

This promise is also extended to you. If you desire to build your body as a holy temple unto God, He will give you rest from the enemy which includes all your trials.

The temple of God cannot be built during warfare. Hence, God forbid David to build His temple because he was a man of war.

But God commissioned David’s son Solomon to build the temple and gave him peace from all his enemies while he was doing so. (1 Kings 5:1-5)

David’s entire reign was filled with conflict, and he did not have any rest from his enemies. It was the Lord’s desire that David prepared the country by defeating the enemies around him and organizing the material for the temple.

Being a man of war was not a negative feature for David because it kept him in line with God. David committed the greatest sin in his life when he remained at home instead of going to battle.

But, he readily repented when he was confronted with his iniquities and God forgave him. David was a man after God’s heart. (2 Kings 11)

As you build your temple for God’s dwelling place, you will receive oppositions from the enemies, but the presence of the Lord will always be with you.

And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:14

While the Israelites were in captivity in Babylon the land of Judah was desolate, but it was okay because the land rested and enjoyed its Sabbath.

 I will scatter you among the nations and draw out a sword after you; your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths as long as it lies desolate and you are in your enemies’ land; then the land shall rest and enjoy its Sabbaths.

As long as it lies desolate, it shall rest— for the time; it did not rest on your Sabbaths when you dwelt in it. (Leviticus 26:33-35)

There must be a time in your life that you receive rest from your trials.

So if you are continually being bombarded by problems which seemed to have no ending, you need to seek the Lord with all your heart and soul and begin to build your body as His holy tabernacle.

Your warfare is over and you can have rest from your enemies and your trials so that you can enjoy your Sabbath (spiritual rest) and eat before the Lord.
