This post is a continuation of the Significance of the Oil and Wine, which was published on Good Friday. It is fitting that this post is released on Easter Monday to complete the series.
The natural use of the wine in biblical days.
- The wine is a reward or fulfillment of your divine destiny. (Isaiah 55:1-3; Deuteronomy 8:8; Isaiah 36:17)
- It will strengthen you if you faint. (1 Samuel 16:2; Psalms 104:15)
- The wine will heal and restore your broken wound. (Luke 10:34)
- Drinking a little wine will help your illness (1 Timothy 5:23). The excessive use of wine or alcohol will promote drunkenness and that is a sin. (Ephesians 5:18; 1 Timothy 3:3)
- The wine promotes healing and restoration. (Joel 2:24-25)
The spiritual significance of the Oil and Wine.
The oil represents the anointing of the Holy Spirit. (1 John 2:26-27)
The Holy Spirit is the third part of the God Head, who will dwell in your heart when you invite Him inside. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and when He lives in your heart, He will teach you the revelation of God’s Word. He will empower you to be bold, to preach and teach God’s Word and to perform miracles.
The Holy Spirit will sanctify you and make you righteous unto God. He will give you joy and a discerning spirit. The Holy Spirit will always comfort you and give you dreams and visions.
The Wine symbolized the blood of the new covenant which Christ shed on the cross for the remission of our sins. The broken bread symbolized the body of Christ which was broken for our sins. All our infirmities were laid on His body so that we could be whole (Isaiah 53).
Physical and Spiritual Application of the Oil and Wine
The implementation of the Lord’s Supper is vital to our healing and deliverance. The Lord wants us to perform this simple act in obedience to Him, and He wants us to do it as often as possible.
I encourage you celebrate the Lord’s Supper with your immediate family around your bedside if you are ill and at home at least once per week when you are well. You should also anoint your body with oil especially in the areas that ache every day.
Many churches used the pre-package wafer and grape juice to perform the Holy Communion. I personally prefer to purchase the best or at least the better brand of wine in the supermarket and regular bread.
The leaven bread in the old testament once symbolized sin, but the blood of Jesus Christ cleansed us from all sin and unrighteousness. One of Jesus’ parables stated in Matthew 13:33 that the kingdom of heaven is like leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
This parable was referring to the Word of God you can feed on so that it will grow and expand in your life to give you complete health and deliverance from the enemy.
The three measures in the meal symbolized the God Head – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
The yeast produced the fermentation that allows the dough to rise and become rich and fulfilling.
This principle is similar to the work of the Holy Spirit in your life. He will help you to rise above your weaknesses, inadequacies and infirmities and become healthy and vigorous.
Note also that the yeast in grape juice promotes fermentation that change the sugar into alcohol, which turns it into rich robust wine.
The Holy Spirit will stir up the gifts of God within you to proclaim His Word boldly because God has not given you a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. (2 Timothy1:7)
You will become excited about the Word of God thus spending quality time in it and you will be encouraged to practice God’s Word in your life. This excitement and zeal for the Word will renew your body, spirit, and soul.
When you partake of the Holy Communion, remind the Lord of His promises and commitment that He took your pain, disease, and brokenness so that you will be freed.
Even though God has not forgotten the sacrifice He made, He wants us to hold Him accountable to His Word and radically received our healing.
When the Lord instituted the Passover, He told the children of Israel to remove leaven from their bread for seven days. They ate unleavened bread during that time as a sacrifice and as a symbol of God’s mercy. Note the number seven again. (Exodus 12:1-20)
The Passover was a pattern of the ultimate sacrifice of Christ’s death and resurrection. This is the new covenant between God and man.
Jeremiah prophesied this covenant:
“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them,” says theLord.
“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin, I will remember no more.” (Jeremiah 31:31-34NKJ)
Christ fulfilled the Covenant:
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying,“Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say to you; I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. (Matthew 26:26-30NKJV)
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
Examine Yourself!
Therefore, whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.
For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this reason, many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. (1 Corinthians 11: 26-32NKJV)
Note it is crucial that you do not partake of the Lord’s Supper unworthily. What does unworthily means?
One of the meanings of the word “worthy” in the English dictionary is “deserving”. When a person is worthy of something, he deserves it while if you are unworthy of something you do not deserve it.
Hence, the above scripture meant that some people who partake of the Lord’s supper will not benefit from its blessings because they do not deserve it. So they eat and drink unworthily.
What would cause someone not to deserve the blessings of the Holy Communion?

The above scripture states that when you partake of the Lord supper unworthily you eat and drink judgment upon himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.
Thus, you become unworthy when you are eating without appreciating the spiritual significance of the elements.
Disobedience to the Word of God will cause you to lose the benefits of the Lord’s supper.
The Lord told us to partake of the supper frequently. Some people have various understanding of the word “often.” It is interpreted to mean once per month while others celebrate the Lord’s supper once per week.
Before making a decision, ask yourself how often do you want to receive supernatural miracles and blessings in your life?
You can also lose the benefits of the Lord’s supper by persisting in sin.
Most people try to compensate by repenting before partaking of the Lord’s supper and then afterwards they return to their sinful lifestyle. However, the Lord knows your heart and He will not be mocked.
Note also that the Lord’s Supper and tithing work together for you to receive the full benefits.
Consequences of Partaking unworthily of the Lord’s Supper
- You will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- You will eat and drink judgment upon yourself not discerning the Lord’s body. In other words, you cannot appreciate the spiritual implication of Christ’s death and resurrection.
- You will become weak and sickly, and many people will die as a result.
It is best to examine yourself and if you are guilty repent sincerely to the Lord and He will forgive and restore you.
I pray that you will receive the understanding of the Word of God.
When you understand the Word of God, you will receive the revelation as the Holy Spirit imparts it to you.
When you receive the revelation of the Word of God, you will be healed and restored.
