  1. I was reflecting on this whole preaching and teaching topic today. I grew up in a preaching church, focused on gifts and service, but not really teaching how to live and what to do in a lot of situations. I am being taught a lot of things now, even after years of being in church.

  2. Not sure I understand that preaching is not as important as teaching? I our church, our pastor does teach in his preaching, but preaching God’s Word is very important. “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18 KJV) and in 1:21; “For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” (1 Corinthians 1:21 KJV)

Teaching comes after the preaching. Until a person accepts the Lord Jesus as their savior, the teaching will go “over their head.”

  3. Hi Ruby and Lee, Thank you for visiting my blog and for participating. I appreciate it very much. Preaching and teaching go hand in hand as you rightly said.
When I was attending university, for each subject we will have a lecture on each topic and then a tutorial afterwards. We could not participate or ask questions in the lecture, but we could do so in the tutorial.

You may not understand the topic of a subject during the lecture, but you will definitely understand it during the tutorial.
The tutorial was the teaching session where we discuss the topic in details, and we interact with the teacher and other students.
We also receive our homework during this session.

Hence, it was compulsory that each student attends the tutorial while it was not for the lecture.
The same principle should operate in the church. The preaching should be viewed as the lecture while the tutorial is the teaching session.

I attended an AG church once that equated this verse about witchcraft/rebellion to submission to church leaders. It made me sad, because Jesus is explicit that only One is our Father, the same One Who is our only leader. But you’re right, the garbage, emotional talks given from modern church pulpits are the reasons we either fall out of the church in disgust or else become sleeping idiots who love the cult of modern Christianity but despise the Word of God.

  5. Hello, Thank you for reading and sharing on this blog. It is so sad when church leaders interpret the Bible to suit their gain. They will say and do anything to gain members and tithes. Unfortunately, they are driving away the younger generation from church and God is not pleased. He will be purifying His Church and so we need to pray for these leaders. May God bless you.
