It’s time to build the family the way God intended.
The home is the training ground for love, patience, and the shaping of godly people who go out into the world and become a force for Christ. The family IS the foundation of the church, patterned after God’s love for humanity. He sees us as His children, joint heirs to the Throne of Grace.
The Biblical Vision for the Family
The Bible teaches us how to raise a family: from marriage to parenting, everything we need is found in the sixty-six books inspired by the Holy Spirit. We see in Scripture a variety of family structures, from the imperfect to those that God raised up and turned into a nation.
Here’s what I believe about the family:
- Faith and trust in God start at home.
- True love is demonstrated through sacrifice, patterned after Christ’s sacrifice for us.
- God sets and ordains the structure of the family: He is always the head.
The Atmosphere of a Christ-centered Home
A good family begins with the covenant of marriage. Marriage patterns Christ’s love for the church, His bride. Marriage reflects God’s unconditional and sacrificial love, His unity in the Godhead between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and the unbreakable covenant between humanity and God through Christ’s atonement.
Following this is parenting with faith and purpose. One of the goals for marriage is to bring forth children rooted in God. Raising children can reveal the good, bad, and ugly of parenting. However, parenting the way God intends can teach us patience, forgiveness, and humility.
The Bible urges us to train up a child in the way that he should go, and when he gets old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6 KJV).
Parenting the Biblical way aims to introduce children to the nature and character of God. We train children through instruction and example, revealing the Scripture and living the Scripture.
Godly Character Through Every Stage of Life
The Bible is the cornerstone of our faith, guiding us not only in how we grow in God but also in how we grow through life.
Men wrestle with questions of leadership and responsibility. They struggle with upholding God’s image through integrity and accountability, but with Scripture, their faith can be sharpened as they grow in God’s strength, training to guide and protect their families.
Women frequently go through emotional changes, in tune with their intuition and carrying spiritual discernment and a nurturing love. Scripture encourages women to be strong ambassadors for Christ while remaining humble, feminine, and wise.
Children absorb the Gospel through stories, life lessons, routines, and the examples set by their parents. Every moment they encounter godly characteristics shapes them as they grow into godly adults.
Teens and young adults explore their identity and independence, testing the boundaries of their beliefs. However, with guidance, they can rediscover a faith shaped by their personal walk with God. As they make major life decisions concerning their careers and relationships, the foundation they have will become the cornerstone of their many transitions.
Senior adults have experienced the faith with much knowledge to pass down, while still learning. The Scripture prepares and encourages the mature in faith to train those new to the faith by imparting knowledge on family, life, and the lessons they have learned through their own walk with God.
Each stage approaches the Gospel through a different lens, but the aim is to help us grow closer to God.
Grace for Imperfect Humans
God works through flawed people. That means God can work through each of us once we make ourselves available to Him.
Mistakes happen, and sometimes we fall short. The Bible teaches that we all fall short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). However, we are all justified freely by God’s grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus (Romans 3:24).
The Christ-centered home is a place where grace becomes the ultimate tool in reflecting godly character.
