Christ calls us to live for Him every day. Living for God is walking with Him, making Him the center of our lives, and glorifying Him in everything we do.
Why Should We Live for Christ?
We’re called to be the salt of the earth.
“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:13-16 NKJV
It’s the ongoing process of our actions and thoughts shaped by Biblical principles and the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
How we live for Christ shows up in:
- How we respond to stress
- How we treat others
- The decisions we make
- The way we deal with failures and disappointments
It’s learning to ask God for His guidance and instruction in everything we do.
How We Live for Christ
The foundation of our lives should be built on Christ and His example on earth. Setting Christ as the cornerstone of our lives is evident in how we start our day, how we carry ourselves, and what we pay attention to.
Start Every Day with Prayer
As Christians, going to God before we do anything invites God to be first in our lives. It allows us to connect to God and sets the tone for the rest of our day. However, prayer is not a one-time action. The Bible urges us to stay in constant prayer.
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NKJV
Study the Word
The Word is like a two-edged sword, acting as a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. It brings us comfort, instruction, guidance, and rebuke when we need it most.
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 NKJV
Reflect and Listen to the Voice of God
In our Christian walk, it is important that we take time to be still, to listen, and reflect. As we study the Word, we should take care to meditate on it and let it speak to our spirit.
Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people, to His saints.
Psalms 85:8 NKJV
Honor God in Worship and Thanksgiving
Throughout our lives, we should be thankful to God for everything, singing His praises and worshipping Him with our thoughts, words, and actions.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into His presence with singing!
Psalms 100:1-2 NKJV
Honoring God Through Obedience and Surrender
The greatest way we can honor and live for God is through obedience and surrender. To obey God means to keep His commandments, to love Him, and to love others.
Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.
Exodus 19:5 NKJV
Obedience requires total surrender to God. Surrendering requires that we give all our worries and problems over to God and allow Him to lead us.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.
Proverbs 3:5-6
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:1-2 NKJV
Becoming More Like Christ
The Bible calls us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Through Christ’s sacrifice, we now have access to the Spirit of God, and through the Spirit we live like Christ, exercising His character.
If we live in the Spirit, then we should walk in the Spirit. It is through the Spirit that we develop His fruits.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such, there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23
