Exploring the Nature of God’s Mercy

1–2 minutes

The mercy of the Lord endures forever!

The above statement occurs approximately twenty-six (26) times in Psalms 136 and over forty times in the entire Bible.

This tells us that God’s mercy will never end, including on judgment day.

The mercy of God is part of His nature. It follows Him, and it encompasses Him.

Thus, God addresses humanity on a foundation of mercy.

Important facts about God’s mercy

The mercy of the Lord is abundant. Consequently, He does not become angry easily and will always forgive your sins and iniquities if you repent.

The Lord keeps His covenant of mercy with those who walk before Him with all their hearts.

“All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, to such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.” (Psalms 25:10 NKJV)

The mercy of the Lord is everlasting to those who fear Him, and His righteousness extends to all generations.

“The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy.” (Psalms 145:8 NKJV)

Because of God’s mercy, His kindness will not depart from you, nor will He remove His covenant of peace.

Dear friends, I pray Jude 1:20-21 over our lives that we “build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you (us) eternal life. In this way, you (we) will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.”
