O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

(Psalms 34:8 KJV)

Persons who rejected God have never had a personal encounter with Him.

There is a saying in the culinary world that says, “we eat with our eyes.”

In other words, if the food on the plate is ugly then you will be reluctant to eat it. But if the food is plated beautifully then you will want to eat it.

However, a dish can be presented beautifully but does not taste good.

Therefore, not every thing that looks good must be trusted and not everything that is ugly is bad.

The god of this world (Satan) will present himself to people as a bright shining and beautiful angel.

If you are not grounded in the truth of God’s Word you will be deceived by his appearance.

The Bible said that Jesus had no outward beauty or attractiveness that we would desire Him.

Hence, He was despised and rejected by family and friends. He was a sorrowful man acquainted only with grief.

“We turned our backs on Him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.” (Isaiah 53:3B NLT).

We did not know that Jesus’ appearance was depressive because He was carrying the weight of our sins.

We thought, like Job’s friends, that He was being punished by God because of sins in His life.

But Jesus had no sin. He was innocent!

In spite of this, He willing suffered the shame and agony of the cross. He was pierced because of our rebelliousness and stubbornness.

He was crushed because of our iniquities.

He was beaten with a cruel whip so that we could be made whole.

He was chastised so that we would be healed.

We were like wandering sheep who had lost our shepherd. We were like goats without an abiding place.

We forsake the teachings of God to follow our own path.

But the ways of men lead to destruction.

We did not know that God’s ways are best for us because we refused to taste and see that the Lord is good.

We were ignorant to the fact that He was oppressed to spare us from oppression.

He bore the injustices;

He bore the pain and heartaches;

He bore the shame.

He bore all the bad things so that we would enjoy all the good things.

Why did Jesus chose to suffer all of those horrible things?

It was the Father’s plan from before the foundation of the world to bruise the Son to redeem humanity from sin.

Because of Jesus’ suffering, God made it possible for us to receive righteousness through Him.

Hallelujah!

“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you—The sure mercies of David.”

(Isaiah 55:1-3 NKJV)

O’ Taste and see that the Lord is good!

Lord, I pray for those who refuse to enjoy your goodness because they refuse to taste of you.

I pray that you will turn their stony hearts into flesh and they will accept the invitation that you so generously offered to us.

Lord, I pray for those who have already taste of your goodness.

May they continue to feast at your table and may their cups continue to overflow with living water.

In Jesus’ name, Amen!
