New Name New Beginning!
The Lord promises to give those who endure to the end a new name written on a white stone.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. (Revelation 2:17)
Names are significant. Your name shapes your character.

God changed the names of prominent individuals in the Bible to change their destiny.
Abram’s name was changed to Abraham to become the Father of many nations (Genesis 17:5).
Abraham’s wife, Sarai’s, name was changed to Sarah to become the mother of nations (Genesis 17:15-16).
Jacob’s name was changed to Israel to become – contender or soldier of God.
Moses changed Hosea’s name to Joshua, which means Jehovah saves (Numbers 13:16).
Joshua led the Israelites across Jordan and conquered all the nations in the Promised Land.
Jesus changed Saul’s name to Paul who suffered many tribulations to spread the gospel to the world. (Acts 9; 13:9)
If you find yourself living in defeat ask the Lord to change you name and your destiny.
The Lord wants you to live a victorious life in Him.
For Zion’s sake, I will not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a lamp that burns. The Gentiles shall see your righteousness, and all kings your glory.
You shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the Lord will name. You shall also be a crown of glory in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God. (Isaiah 62:1-3 NKJV)
I am looking forward to having a new name given to me by Father God.

I never liked my name (Ann) but when I found out it meant “grace” I started to feel very differently. To have that constant reminder that you are work of God’s grace is so encouraging – and an honour.

It’s incredible how so many of those names are so popular still in our modern culture. I actually never knew this happened in the Bible so I learned something new today! Thank you. If I ever have a child in the future, I’ll keep this in mind – names have power.

Thanks Beverley. There is a lot to our names. I thought about how as children of God, we are responsible for representing the name of Jesus well. May we glorify Him in all we do.

🙂Jesus renamed Simon to Cephas Peter. Simon means a shaking reed while Cephas means rock. He needed a change of name to suit his office.
