Discipline Yourself To Know!

Knowledge is powerful. It can be used as a weapon or as a defence.

The Lord said in His Word that His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge because they have rejected knowledge. (See Hosea 4:6)

One can ask the question why do people lack knowledge in todays high tech world where we have the internet at our finger tips?

Numerous positive knowledge are to be gained on the internet, but people chose what they want to know.

Sadly, most people spend majority of their time listening and reading trash such as gossips, lies and deceptions.

Most people do not want to read the truth or to gain information that are edifyjng.

The truth they claim is boring.

It seems to be more exciting to read about the latest escapade of one of the popular icons in the society.

Thus, in this modern world, people are indeed dying because of lack of knowledge.

John Archibald Wheeler summarized this enigma perfectly.

“We live on an island surrounded by a sea of ignorance. As our island of knowledge grows, so does the shore of our ignorance.”

“The greater our knowledge increases, the more ignorance unfolds.” John F. Kenedy

The enemy of our souls – Satan has a vast array of knowledge in religion, politics, sociology, economy, you name it and he knows it.

Satan is also good at twisting the truth in a captivating manner.

Just look at how subtly he decived Eve into taking a big bite of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil.

He introduced the unknown and enticed her with power.

“Yeah, hath God said, ye shall not eat of every tree in the garden?”

“Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:1, 4-5)

Satan is still offering the knowledge of good and evil to become wealthy and famous.

He is able to inseminate his false knowledge into many people especially the youths.

George Bernard Shaw stated that false knowledge is more dangerous than ignorance.

And,

“You can rule ignorance; you can manipulate the illiterate; you can do whatever you want when a people are uneducated, so that goes in line with corrupt business and corrupt politics.” (Will.i.am)

On the other hand, Benjamin Franklyn said, “Being ignorant is not so much a shame as being unwilling to learn.”

So, the bottom line is that most people are unwilling to learn true knowledge and for this they will perish.

However, as children of a mighty God who is filled with wisdom, power and understanding; we should apply our hearts and mind to know and to seek and search out wisdom.

Having wisdom and knowledge is part of the inheritance that God has in store for us.

May we descipline ourselves to know!

I applied my heart to know, to search and seek out wisdom and the reason of things, to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness.  (Ecclesiastes 7:25).
