The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: (Psalms 19:8A) 

There are benefits in keeping the statutes of the Lord. The Lord promised to bless Abraham by multiplying his descendants as stars of heaven and give them the Promised Land.

Furthermore, through Abraham’s seed, all the nations of the earth would be blessed. Therefore by keeping the statutes of the Lord, we will inherit the blessings of Abraham.

Other benefits of keeping the statutes of the Lord are that you will not acquire the diseases of the Egyptians, you will prosper in whatever you do and you will receive protection from the enemy.

‘If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments, and perform them, then I will give you rain in its season, the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. (Leviticus 26:3-4)

What exactly are the statutes of the Lord?

According to dictionary.com, statutes are laws or permanent rules established by an organization.

Therefore, God’s statutes are His rules and regulations that He has established for us to live by.

The Lord gave these rules to Moses so that He would impart them to the children of Israel.

However, these rules were in place from the beginning of creation in the Garden of Eden when God told Adam and Eve to eat of every tree in the Garden except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The tree of life consisted of God’s established rules and regulations that were designed to give men eternal life.

Later, the Lord re-established these rules to Moses so that he could teach them to the children of Israel.

The primary statutes of the Lord are noted in Leviticus 26 and they include:

Serve only the Lord God and do not indulge in idolatry. The Sabbath day must be kept holy unto the Lord. A more detailed list of commandments is recorded in Exodus 20.

The statutes of the Lord also include the blessings that you will receive if you listen and obey the Word of the Lord. The statutes also include the curses that will come upon you for disobedience.

Some people believe that these rules are archaic and we are not required to obey them in our dispensation.

However, I beg to differ because the Tree of life containing all of God’s laws, statutes and commandments are fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ.

By receiving the Lord Jesus Christ in our hearts He will teach and guide us in the principles of the Lord.

You can, therefore, rejoice in the statutes of the Lord because they are embodied in the Lord Jesus Christ who is the way, truth, and life.
