Are You Planning to Build?
Check this out!
Who are we in the sight of God? Who are we that He should be mindful? We are but dust in the sight of God, but He loves us in spite of this.
David felt undeserving when he finally found peace from his enemies. He was a warrior who fought many battles. Thus, when David arrived at this place of rest, he was very grateful to God. To show his gratitude, he decided to build a house for God.
The king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells inside tent curtains.” (2 Samuel 7:2)
How many of us after we have received the blessings of the Lord – the dream house and the fancy car – wants to give back something to the Lord?
David wanted to do something for God, and the Lord saw the genuineness of his desire and immediately sent him an answer.
The answer came through Nathan the prophet saying,
“Would you build a house for Me to dwell in?” (2 Samuel 7:5)
Although God was pleased with David’s intentions because no one else had ever expressed a similar desire, He declined David’s request.
The Lord elevated David from a shepherd to a king and gave him everything that he wanted including victory over his enemies. The Lord was with David wherever he went.
However, the Lord told him, “you want to build me a house, but I will make you a house.” (2 Samuel 7:11).
In other words, the Lord wanted to create wisdom and understanding within David’s household (Proverbs 24:3). David’s home was not up to the standard where God wanted it to be so he was not qualified to build His house.
The Lord honored the intention of David’s heart and promised that his throne would be established forever and his seed would build His house.
God poured out His spirit of wisdom and understanding on King Solomon, David’s son. He was thus qualified to build the first temple made of stone and cedar for the Lord, but it did not stop there.
The perfect Son of God Jesus Christ, the rock, built the Church of the living God. The spirit of the heavenly Father also rested on His Son Jesus Christ. He has the spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel and might; and the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord (Isaiah 11:2).
The Church (the believers) is now the temple of God because He lives in our heart. (Matthew 16:16-19)
The Church has been established upon the solid rock of Jesus Christ with wisdom, knowledge, and revelation. Let us continue this great mantle and do not fall short.
In gratitude to God, David poured out his heart in a thanksgiving praise to the Lord. We also need to show our appreciation to God.
Heavenly Father, thank You! What more can David (put you name here) say to You? For You, Lord God, know Your servant. For Your word’s sake, and according to Your own heart, you have done all these great things, to make Your servant know them.
Therefore You are great, O Lord God. For there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears. So let Your name be magnified forever, saying, ‘The Lord of hosts is the God over Israel.’
And let the house of Your servant David be established before You.“And now, O Lord God, You are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant.
Now, therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever; for You, O Lord God, have spoken it, and with Your blessing let the house of Your servant be blessed forever. Amen
(2 Samuel 7: 20-22, 26, 28-29)
