The Great Commandment
Jessus said that His yolk is easy and His burden is light. We already discovered that His yolk is His words but what is the burden of the Lord?
A burden is defined by the English dictionary as a heavy load. The Lord said that His burden is not heavy it is light. Hence His burden is not a load that will cause trouble. His burden will give you freedom and release.
The Lord said that His commandments are not burdensome. The first and great commandment of God is that we love the Lord with all your heart, soul and mind.
Hence the burden of the Lord is His commanment which consist of His love for us and our love fo Him. Let us continue to show love to each other so that our love for God will be strengthened.
By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. (1 John 5:2-3)
But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 22:34-40)
