One Spirit One Body More Power!

The last post on this blog dealt with bridging the generational gap and we looked at various ways in which we can create a relationship between the old and the young. I cannot over emphasize how serious this issue is and how displeasing it is to God when we are divided.

As soon as I published the last post the Lord placed the topic, ‘unity in the body of Christ’ on my heart. The topic of unity is expressed quite poetically in Psalms 133 which states:

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down the beard – the beard of Aaron; Running down the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon descending upon the mountains of Zion. For it is there the Lord command the blessings – life evermore.

The oil is referring to the anointing of the Holy Spirit which God pours on us when we come to know him as our Savior. The oil anoints us to achieve our ultimate position in God — kings and priests unto him. How wonderful is this oil which will clothe us in garment of salvation and in holiness and righteousness.

Pure and refreshing as the dew.

Pure and refreshing as the dew.

This anointing oil glistens like the dew on the side of God’s holy mountain. It is pure and refreshing. This is the place where you ought to be so that the blessings of God will pour abundantly upon you and give you life everlasting. The Holy Spirit not only anoints us but it is also the chord that will bind us together.

Most of us claim that we have the Holy Spirit in our hearts, yet we are still divided. Sadly many Christians are possessed with a spirit which is not holy. They have a form of godliness but denying its power.

It is expedient that we examine ourselves and be honest. Ask yourself this question: is my heart free from all the evil spirits of the enemy such as gossiping, anger, backbiting, envy, deceitfulness, fear, pride, unforgiving, selfishness, ungratefulness, disobedient, traiters…?

If one or more of these spirits are in your heart the Holy Spirit cannot dwell in you. So chase them out because they are unwanted quests. They are squatters taking up residence in your life thus preventing the true owner from occupying his territory.

They are like spam that need to be deleted.

Note that on the day of Pentecost the disciples were together in one accord in the upper room when the Holy Spirit descended upon them. The Holy Spirit united them even more closely and gave them gifts, power and boldness. Thus they grew rapidly as a church.

Over the years the church has become divided by doctrines, social classes, economy, race, culture, age and gender. The more divided we are the weaker we become as a body.

Let us therefore set things straight and return to basic. There is only one spirit. When we are obedient to him and he will joined and knit us together as one body. A united body which will work effectively to edify us in love and to promote growth and prosperity.
one accord
