The Breast is The Best!

Yes! Let me assure you that the breast is simply the best. The breast is the round tissue that overlay the anterior chest wall. It is also called the mammary gland. The woman’s breast is developed during puberty due to the production of estrogen.

The breast is made up of a special tissue called the glandular tissue which functions in lactation or milk production. The remainder of breast tissue is made up of ligaments, connective and mostly fat tissue which give the breast its shape, size and texture.

The most important function of the breasts is to produce milk to feed and nourish the infants. They also serve other functions such as comfort and affection.

They are the most loved and attractive part of the woman’s body and every woman is sensitive about their breast. They worry that they may be too small or too large or they are sagging or they are asymmetrical. These are all normal variations of the breast.

Most women do not like sagging breasts because it make them feel unattractive. Sagging of the breast occurs because of gravity. The breast does not have muscle tissue to hold it upright so it will droop with loss of weight, age and after breast feeding.

Functions of the Breasts

  • The most important function of the breast is to produce milk to feed and nourish that infant. During pregnancy the breasts develop by the stimulation of special hormones to produce milk. During the first 3-5 days after the mother gave birth the breasts produce a special substance called colostrum. This substance is loaded with antibodies and nutrients which are vital for the newborn baby.

  • The production of milk increases with increase sucking of the baby. Studies have shown that breast feeding your baby will increase their resistance to diseases, the baby will become healthy and strong and the mothers will lose their baby fat weight faster and it also helps the post partum uterus to contract quickly.
  • Some women may not produce enough milk and may have to supplement with infant formula. But it is advisable that they do not stop breast feeding. I breast fed my two children for the first four to six months. Even though I had to supplement with formula due to the low production of breast milk my babies were healthy and strong. This includes my son who, as a baby, did not show any outward signs of his heart disease. The evidence of the disease was apparent as he became older.
  • Comfort and contentment: Babies love the breast not only for the food but because of the comfort that they provide them. As soon as the baby is placed on the breast most times they quickly fall asleep due to the level of comfort that they received. During breast feeding they are bonded more closely to the mother.
  • Attraction: The breasts are one of the most attractive parts of the female body. A woman is more appealing and sexy when her breasts are enhanced in a positive and not revealing way.
  • Affection and intimacy: The breasts have an important role in sexual intimacy in marriage. The breasts contain many nerve endings which when stimulated will send signals of pleasure to the brain. They produce comfort, pleasure and sexual satisfaction for both husbands and wives.

The Lord recognizes the importance of sexual pleasure that the breast gives and states in Proverbs 5:18-19

let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth. As a loving deer and a graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times; and always be enraptured (ravished) with her love.

This verse was specifically geared towards older men who are sometimes led astray by the breasts of younger women. This is not the will of the Lord and he has made provision for husbands and wives to receive pleasure in each other as they grow older.

Today is the third Friday in the month and it is celebrated as Mammography day. In 1993, Bill Clinton proclaimed every third Friday in October to be Mammography Day as part of the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is a day which is focusing on motivating all women 40 and over to get a mammography examination done. Mammography is the x-ray examination of the breasts.

There are many diseases that can affect the breast. You can read about some of them here. Most of them are non- cancerous so it is advisable that you release the fear and embrace the challenge and make an appointment for a mammogram. Remember prevention is better than cure. Also early detection of breast cancer can save lives. The breasts are precious to a woman just as you are precious to God.
