Is this statement true?

Have you ever wondered why people with wealth and fame suffer from depression?

Why are prosperous people lonely and unhappy? When you have plenty of money you have many friends, isn’t that true?

The more money that you have, the happier you should be, after all, money answers everything.

On many occasions during fundraising events at various churches, this popular scripture verse in Ecclesiastes 10:19 would be quoted to encourage the members to give as much money as possible to a particular cause.

This verse states,

A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry; but money answers everything. (Ecclesiastes 10:19)

Whenever I heard this quotation, I become very uncomfortable because I know that money does not answer everything.

Money is necessary for food, shelter, and clothing – all the material things in life.

But, do you really need money to be happy or comfortable?

There is a song which states,

‘If life was a thing money could buy, the rich would live and the poor would die.’

Money is very important to all of us, but we should ensure that it does not become an idol in our lives.

If your primary objective in life is to become wealthy and famous, chances are you will never find full satisfaction.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death (Proverbs 14:12).

If money is the only way that seems right to you, it will surely end in your demise. Wealth and fame are bi-products of God and the best way to receive them is through God’s way, which you can learn here.

According to Ecclesiastics 7:11-12, wisdom and money are defenses (protection), but only wisdom gives life.

Therefore, it is necessary to have wisdom when you have an inheritance.

When I consider the above facts I realize that either the verse in Ecclesiastes 10:19 is wrong or it is simply been misquoted due to lack of knowledge.

If we are going to teach the millennial generation the truth, we need to have a proper understanding of the Word of God. This knowledge can only be achieved by the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes two particular verses in the Bible may appear contradicting. For example, ‘For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil..’(1 Timothy 6:10) and ‘money answers everything (Ecclesiastes 10:19B).

Therefore, to get a full understanding of a particular topic that you are studying, it is important that you marry all the scripture verses that deal with that subject then open your mind to the revelation of the Holy Spirit.

I compiled all the verses in the Bible that dealt with money and I studied them together and allowed the Holy Spirit to reveal to me the spiritual understanding of money and how it should be handled in the life of man.

The Bible states that money answers everything only to the wealthy who depends on their money to give them everything.

But, for those of us who live by faith, money is a by-product of God’s right hand.

Buy without money

In the right hand of God are wisdom and knowledge.

In His left hand are wealth and fame.

Which hand will you cleave after?

A wise man’s heart is at his right hand,

But a fool’s heart is at his left hand. (Ecclesiastics 10:2)

For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense;

But the excellence of knowledge is that

Wisdom gives life to those who have it; (Proverbs 2:11-12)

For wisdom is the tree of life.

So while you sit in your lofty position

Exalting in your youth and splendor;

Feasting and drinking morning by morning

Beginning your day with laughter and merriment;

Caring not that your building decays

And your house leaks because your heart clings tightly

To your left hand as money answers everything.

Alas, the riches of a fool will leave him in the midst of his days. (Jeremiah 17:11)

There is a river flowing from the throne of God,

And on either side is the tree of life.

If you hunger and thirst for righteousness

Come to the waters of the Lord.

Come, you, who have no money;

Come, buy and eat fruits from the tree of life.

Yes come, buy wine and milk

Without money and price.

Why do you spend money for that which is not bread,

And your wages on things that do not satisfy?

Listen carefully to me,

Eat what is good and let your soul delight in abundance.

Incline your ears and come to the Lord;

Hear! And your soul shall live (Isaiah 55:1-2)
