This week I took my son to the Cardiovascular Center in Puerto Rico to do a cardiac catheterization. The Cardiologist identified an extra blood vessel that was pouring deoxygenated blood in his heart which was causing low oxygen saturation in his blood. My son was born with a congenital heart disease, and he had surgery to repair his heart in 2008.

My son is now fifteen years old, and he is going through puberty and all the things that are related to teenagers.

I spent over forty hours sitting on several different chairs just waiting. The entire time waiting from the admission office to the procedure was a very grueling.

The enemy bombarded my mind with many negative thoughts. Yes! I must confess in trying times such as sickness; my flesh becomes weak, and I cannot find words to pray.

Mercifully the Lord gave me one verse which I repeated over and over again in my heart:

Let integrity and uprightness preserve me for I wait for you (Psalms 25:21).

The enemy filled my mind with thoughts of complications, failure, and death but the word of God rang in my heart –

Let me not be ashamed let not my enemies triumph over me… (Psalms 25:2).

As I waited in the waiting room for the procedure to complete, my patience decrease, and I faltered, but the Lord’s word returned to my ears:

All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth to such as keep his covenant and his testimonies. (Psalms 25:10)

I sat in the crowded waiting room filled with parents relatives and friends of their loved ones who were in the Cardiac Lab doing their procedures. They were chatting away in a language that I did not understand.

They conversed with each other as they waited, trying to comfort and strengthen each other. A few amused themselves watching television programs that spoke a strange language to my ears, but the image transmitted the familiar language of sex, violence, and merchandise.

I sat alone with neither relatives nor friends by my side. But I know that my God was with me because His name is:

I AM.

So even though I AM alone; I AM waiting, and I AM anxious; I know that God is in the midst of all my situation, so I waited.

I waited, and I held on to my life of integrity and uprightness because I know that they will preserve me.

I gave my life completely and entirely to God, so I know He will not let me be ashamed, neither will He allow the enemy to triumph over me.

I dwell daily in the secret place of God.

This place is my habitation- my home where I receive my daily food. The secret place keeps my sanity intact, and it gives me strength. My strength is not from my ability nor in the capacity of the doctors, but my strength is directly from God, who is keeping me firmly and preserving me.

I waited, and I held tightly onto the hands of God who did not let me go. The cardiac procedure was long, but it was successful, and my son was discharged on Saturday morning (July 12, 2014).

My son is a strong willed and determined teenage boy who just wants to live to be an ordinary teenager who will one day become a pilot.

God is the strength of our life and in Him will we place our complete trust.

Even though the procedure was successful, the enemy continued to attack us with the spirit of fear which weakened our bodies and threatened to destroy our minds.

I believe that together we can destroy the plots of the enemy so join me in prayer for mine and your family because we need each other to gain strength and encouragement because we are all a part of the household of God.

To you oh Lord I lift up my soul. Oh my God, I trust in you; let me not be ashamed; let not my enemies triumph over me. Show me your ways, oh Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; on you I will wait all the day.

All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth to such as keep his covenant and his testimonies. Turn yourself to me, and have mercy on me, for I am desolate and afflicted. The troubles of my heart have enlarged; bring me out of my distresses! Look on my affliction and my pain and forgive all my sins. Consider my enemies, for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred. Keep my soul, and deliver me. Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in you. Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen (Psalms 25:1-2; 4-5;10; 16-21).
