Do You Dare to be Different?
Giovanna was a sixteen-year-old girl who was always worried about her appearance. She thought her face was too oily and was constantly powdering her nose in the bathroom.
She considered her hair too thick and hard to comb and begged her mother to relax it but to no avail.
On top all the flaws in her features, Giovanna always felt left out of the groups in her school. She never felt as if she was wanted and sometimes she felt rejected.
Maybe it was because of her appearance. She was not as pretty as the other girls in her class, and sometimes they called her ugly.
Perhaps the other girls rejected her because of her name. She did not like her name, and she couldn’t forgive her mother for giving her such a silly name. She could not wait to get older so that she could change it!
She was going to make a lot of changes to appearance. She might even do plastic surgery. She thought to herself.
Giovanna sighed dreamily on the window seat in her room. Then she shrugged dejectedly and returned to her book. At least here inside the pages of a fairytale romance she could pretend to be anything that she wanted to be.
Many young people are facing an identity crisis as Giovanna. Some of you may fall into depression and may seclude yourselves from others. When you identify these issues in yourself, you need to learn how to love yourself.
Since the Lord implanted His Spirit within us, we need to seek to know our unique gifts and characteristics. Your uniqueness and difference are blessings from God because they define who you are.
Therefore, you do not have to follow the crowd who are pursuing the wrong path. You do not have to speak the same language as the others; you only need to speak the language of life.
You do not have to look like a celebrity or a model; you can accept yourself for who you are because after all you resemble God.
Therefore, you do not have to settle for average because the power of advancement and improvement is within your heart and is activated by your hands.
It is okay to feel different because your uniqueness will separate you from the curse of the enemy.
Accept yourself and be yourself.
If Giovanna spends some time to research the meaning of her name she would realize that it is a Hebrew name which means gracious gift from God.
Her mom gave her that name because she believed that her child was hand selected and presented to her as a special gift from the Lord. There is no better person than who is inside of you because you are special!
