About

Hello! Thank you for visiting and welcome to my blog!

Beverly - early twenties.

Beverly – early twenties.

My Background

My name is Beverley Doreen Wright. I was born in the small rural community of Lionel Town in the parish of Clarendon on the beautiful island of Jamaica – the land of wood and water.

I was raised in a humble household. My father was a sugar cane cutter at the Money Musk Sugar Factory, and my mother was a domestic worker. I was brought up with four brothers and two sisters.

My father was a hard worker, but, unfortunately, he lived a reckless life and wasted his earnings on gambling, drinking, and extra-marital affairs. His careless lifestyle brought great unhappiness and hardship to my mother and siblings.

Eventually, my father died of a heart attack when I was about ten years old. After his death, my mother decided to dedicate the rest of her life to God and her children.

She told us that the Lord would be a father to the fatherless and a husband to the widow. Her faith in God never faltered and, as a result, she was blessed tremendously by God.

The Lord became my Father and personal Savior when I gave my heart to Him at the tender age of eleven. One year after I accepted Christ as my Savior, I was baptized in my local church – Faith Gospel Chapel.

The elders of this church were mighty men of God who taught the Word of God zealously. It was under their leadership that the Word of God was planted in my life.

I attended the Glenmuir High School in May Pen Clarendon. My high school years were some of the best years of my life.

I received mentorship and guidance from excellent and dynamic teachers. They were gifted in making the subjects that they taught appear exciting and alive. These teachers left an indelible mark in my life which I am benefitting from even now.

After graduating from high school, the Lord provided me with many scholarships and grants so that I was able to pursue my territory education.

I obtained a Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography and Diagnostic Ultrasonography at the School of Medical Imaging Technology. I also received a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and General Studies at the University of the West Indies – Jamaica.

I worked as a Medical Imaging Technologist for over twenty-eight years. I dedicated the first fourteen years of my labor to the government of Jamaica where I worked at Kingston Public Hospital for one year and Bustamante Hospital for Children for thirteen years as a Radiographer.

I worked the last fourteen and a half years as a Medical Imaging Technologist at the Peebles Hospital, British Virgin Islands.

In 1996, I married Calvin Headlam, and we had two children. The last child was diagnosed with a congenital heart disease. He brought many challenges and comforts to our lives while our daughter brought joy to our marriage.

My Relocation

In 2001, we migrated to the British Virgin Islands where I began my job as a Medical Imaging Technologist at the Peebles Hospital. Our lives on the picturesque island of Tortola brought many trials and triumphs.

It was as a direct result of these trials that I decided to give my life wholly and entirely to God in 2011.

The Lord told me to relinquish all my secular goals and desires and to get rid of the clutter (secular books and televisions) in my life, and allow Him to teach me His words through the Holy Spirit for two years.

The Lord told me to adopt the following verses as my mission statement.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified… (Isaiah 61: 1-7)

At the end of my training, the Lord told me to start this blog to share my journey to become the oil and the wine.

Read more about the challenges I have in relocating to the BVI  here

In 2017, I published my first book entitled Harm Not Th Oil And Wine.

It outlines the place of refuge that God established for His people to shelter from the storms of life.

Read more about this book here and you can get your copy here.

Who are the Oil and Wine?

The oil in biblical times was made from the olive. According to wikipedia.org, the olives are first washed thoroughly, and then they are crushed into a paste. It is then mixed slowly to ensure uniformity of the oil.

Finally, the pulp is pressed to separate the oil from the liquid. The oil is then filtered to become pure oil. Olive oil is beneficial to our health because it can cause a reduction in coronary heart disease.

The process of making wine from grapes goes through a series of steps. The grapes are first washed and crushed to remove the juice. The pulp is discarded, and yeast is added to the liquid to allow the fermentation of the wine.

Fermentation is the process where the natural sugar in the grape juice is transformed into alcohol. After a time, the wine is transferred to oak barrels where it is allowed to mature for weeks or even months. The longer the wine is allowed to age, the better the quality of the wine.red-wine-1069717_640

The Church or the believers in Christ must go through a similar process to become purified and matured products of God. First, the blood of Jesus Christ must wash and cleanse our sins (1 John 1:7).

Trials will press us but they will not crush us, and the Lord will not forsake us (2 Corinthians 4:7-11).

The Holy Spirit will strain and remove all the dirt and sediments in our lives as long as we are obedient to Him. Finally, the Word of God will leaven and ferment us into full maturity.

When you have reached the stage of the oil and wine you are dwelling in the secret place of God. Hence, you will abide under the shadow of the Almighty (Psalms 91). You are under God’s full protection, and the devil cannot harm you.

The Purpose of this Blog

Becomingtheoilandwine blog is to share my journey to become the Oil and Wine. Bear in mind that each of us experiences in life are different so you may not have to endure the same trials that I had. But, remember trials are part of life, and their primary purpose is to make you stronger and give you patience.

I have no formal training in Psychology, Theology, or marriage counseling, so each post that I wrote is based on my personal trials and how God delivered me.

You may be wondering why I want to tell my personal business to the world, but I believe that everyone likes a juicy piece of gossip now and then.

So if your life experience will help someone to be a better person then by all means gossip about it. However, negative gossip and criticism are what we need to avoid.

The Lord told me that my life must be an open book to the public because it will help someone. Therefore, I cannot have hidden sins in my life.

I literally and spiritually internalized the Word of God (Bible) and, as a result, it has been a source of strength, and resistance not only from attacks of the enemy but sickness and diseases.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalms 119:105)

How to use this Blog

The blog is divided into several categories that are easy to locate on the menu bar at the top. They are as follows:

Home: This page leads you to all the posts on the blog.

About: You are currently on this page, and it is giving you information about the founder of this blog.

Poem: This page contains several different types of poetry such as mother, father, love, and general poems. They are all inspired by the Word of God. Most of them, perhaps all, are based on my personal testimonies.

Some of the poetry is also written by one of the faithful Writers of this blog – Lillyofthevalley777.

Permission is required to use any of the poems and must be credited to the author of the poem.

Family:  The family page is divided into marriage; love; father/men; mother/women; teens and young adults; children; elderly. There is a post dedicated to everyone so feel free to peruse.

Prayer: All of us need prayer because it is our direct link to God. The Bible said that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availed much (James 5:16).

The prayers are directly from the Bible, and they are specifically geared to strengthen, heal, and deliver you.

You can also send your prayer request on my Facebook page – Becoming the Oil and Wine.

Prophecy: The Bible states that, in the last days, there will be many false prophets (Matthew 24:11; Mark 13:22 ).

We are living in these times, and it is evident that there is an escalation of prophets and apostles on the radio, television, and the internet.

They all claimed to be anointed by God. I cannot tell you if they are true prophets because only God knows the heart of men. However, the Bible tells us to test the spirit to see if they are of God (1 John 4:1-3). I encourage you to do this.

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:20-21)

The prophecies on this blog are directly from the Word of God (Bible). The Lord told me explicitly that the same prophecies that He gave to the children of Israel before and during their judgment are relevant to us now so I should use them but interpret them spiritually so that they are understandable in our modern-day society.

Inspiration: This page is divided into Christmas, Resurrection Day, New Beginning, and End of Times. If you cannot find a post in a particular category, it will be updated soon. I value your patience.

Daily Thanksgiving Devotion: I recently added this category on the 1st of January 2015. It is imperative that we give thanks to the Lord every day of our lives. The devotion consists of a short scripture verse and a brief commentary. Sometimes I include a favorite gospel song.

  2. God is all about timing… I was searching for information on how much adults behave like children and I thought about the saying, ‘Once a man, twice a child’. When I entered that into Google your blog caught my attention. I read it and was AMAZED at how God can truly work! I am struggling with my main profession and personal achievements and was praying about what to do, then in your post you mention how God inspired you to quit your secular job to minister through this gift you have to share. WOW! Of course, in all of what HE does, it’s for a reason. Could my reason to search this saying now become the answer for me? Not sure. But I did want to say thank you! While I still have some more praying to do before the decision is planted in my heart, I thought it best to let you know that what you’re doing is awesome! Wishing you continued blessings!

  3. Thank you Shellyane,
Your kind words truly bless me. The topic, once a man twice a child is very popular, and it has been the top most read post on my blog. Many people realise that when you get old, you do not have to return to childhood.
The Lord inspired me to give up my secular dreams, not the job, to focus on His work. I will eventually give up the secular job but it is a process. I have to wait patiently on the Lord to provide other alternative income.

The Lord will direct you in your goals and the plan that He has for you but it is a process which you have to take step by step and be obedient to His word. Your dreams may not materialise overnight but it will eventually come to pass. My God bless you.

    • I know this is an old blog but I want to add that God does not always, or even often, ask us to leave our secular job. He needs His children to be a spiritual witness to those they work with, live with and influence. I am a radiologist and businessman whose life and work have been dedicated to seeing the lost saved and the saved coming into a fuller relationship with the Lord. Who will today’s ever increasing lost world likely listen to? A full time preacher or one who walks with them in the midst of an ever crumbling society? As the time of Christ’s return edges ever closer, this will be even more important.

      • Thank you for visiting my blog and for sharing your thoughts. I stated on my about page that the Lord told me to give up my secular dreams and desires not my job. I obeyed the Lord. It is better to be obedient to the Lord than man.

I am also in the medical field as a Medical Imaging Technologist and I am still working. However, I know that the Lord will want me to give up that also but at that time He will have another income provided for me. Blessings and have a great day.

  4. Dear Beverley, thank you so much for stopping by the blog and following it. I just would like to say that there has been some changes and from now on these short devotions can be read at https://franksdevotions.wordpress.com/. (I am Frank’s helper — you know, he is the one who writes the original German devotions –, and he has asked me to tell you this. He was very glad about your visit to his blog:-).

  5. Beverley, just wanted to let you know your blog is a blessing to me, especially because it has given me an opportunity to express my thoughts and comments in this format to a mature Christian woman of God, and to many others who happen across your blog—not by accident I must say.

Not too long ago my husband and I were discussing the part in scripture that said in Revelation 6:6, “see thou hurt not the oil and the wine”. We pretty much came to the conclusion that we (Gods children) are the oil and the wine; so I decided to do a search for “oil and the wine” on the Internet, and came across quite a few links, but yours stood out the most. The reason being the name of your blog site “Becoming the Oil and the Wine”. But first I clicked on a few before I came to yours, but none of what I had read resonated within my sprit until I read yours. I read what you had written about the process of olives becoming oil and grapes becoming wine. Yes, it’s all about the process; and so it is when one becomes a Christian and matures in the Word of God, it is that refining process He allows us to go through in becoming the oil and the wine. So beautiful. Thank you so much for lifting us up and encouraging us along the way on. God has truly blessed you as you have blessed me.

  6. Hello Susan, Thank you for your encouraging words. God has indeed called us to be the oil and wine. We cannot remain as newborn babies desiring milk, but we must graduate to solid food. I am truly grateful to God that my blog has been an inspiration to you. I pray that it will eventually reach a larger audience and your words have given me renewed hope. Thank you and God bless you.
