Are generational curses real?

Will the children inherit the consequences of the sins of their fathers?

The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation. (Numbers 14:18 NKJV).

In the Old Testament laws, the consequences for the sins of the father are passed down throughout the generations, but the Lord declared that it will come to pass when the children will no longer inherit the sins of their fathers.

“Yet you say, ‘Why should the son not bear the guilt of the father?’ Because the son has done what is lawful and right, and has kept all My statutes and observed them, he shall surely live. ²⁰ The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.

²¹ “But if a wicked man turns from all his sins which he has committed, keeps all My statutes, and does what is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. ²² None of the transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; because of the righteousness which he has done, he shall live. ²³ Do I have any pleasure at all that the wicked should die?” says the Lord God, “and not that he should turn from his ways and live?” (Ezekiel 18:19-23)

These prophetic words by Ezekiel have been fulfilled through the Lord Jesus Christ who has redeemed us from the curse of the law.

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. (1 John 2:1-2)

Therefore, if your parents suffer from cancer, diabetes, or other illnesses it does not mean you will inherit them.

Medical science tells us that hereditary diseases will pass on to the children but God tells us that He will not inflict any of the Egyptians’ diseases on His people who obey His Word.

Whose report will you believe?

As a child of God, you have the authority to guard your heart so that no evil will enter inside. God has also given you the wisdom to make healthy choices because prevention is better than cure.

The Lord has also set before you two choices – life or death and He implores you to choose life so that you and your children will live.

The choice is whether you will accept generational curses (diseases and/or misfortunes) as your lot in life or rise up and rebuild the old ruins and repair the former desolations through the Lord Jesus Christ.

With the spirit of love and unity, you can mend broken relationships and resurrect the former glory in your family for generations to come.

The ball is in your hands.

Choose life!

And they shall rebuild the old ruins, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations. (Isaiah 61:4)
