Well, you are in the right place with the right company and together we are going to explore the wonderful world of blogging from the beginning until…

Why did I start blogging?

After I completed the manuscript on my first book – Harm not The Oil and Wine in 2014, I began to search for a publishing company to publish my book. I quickly realized that getting your book published by a traditional publisher was impossible if you do not already have a market for your book.

One of the publishers whom I sent my manuscript promptly returned it, advising me to start a blog and when I get enough followers I can re-submit.

This was the first time I heard about blogging. So I asked my two teenaged tech-savvy children to explain blogging.

They did and introduced me to WordPress and Google blogging site. My children had no experience with blogging so they were unable to help me.

I prayed about it and the Lord told me that a blog is the best place for readers to familiarize themselves with me as an individual and with my writings. It was also a great place to share my testimony and whatever word that the Lord laid on my heart.

Consequently, the Lord told me to let my life be an open book to all my readers. This means I cannot encourage hidden sins.

I decided to be obedient to God and in 2014, I plunged right into the deep without a clue about what I was doing.

Furthermore, at the time I did not own a computer. And worst of all, I could not afford the internet at home.

With all of these challenges, how could I start a blog? I wanted to wait until I was better equipped.

Then the Lord reminded me that I should not put off anything that I could do today. He urged me to start with whatever I had.

I did just that!

All I had in my hands were the resources at my workplace and the public library. So I utilized them in my free time.

My daughter is an aspiring Fashion Designer and when she heard about my idea of creating a blog she suddenly decided that she wanted one also.

So she did her research and published her first blog and she was thus able to guide me in the initial stages of blogging.

I also received help from a former coworker who happened to be an experienced blogger – Kingdom Ambassadors Empowerment Network.

I decided to choose WordPress as my blogging domain because it appeared more user friendly.

First I went to WordPress.com and register by creating a user name and password.

Then I created my web address. This was easy for me because I already had a title for my book so I decided that my blog should be about sharing my journey to become the oil and wine.

Want to know more about the oil and wine? Read here

Before choosing a title for your blog think about the reason why you want to start a blog.

Is it because you like to write or is it because you want to share your experience with others?

Both are good reasons.

So select your area of interest or your hobby. For example, music, poetry, dancing, exercising, fashion, traveling, photography, Christians living, Bible.

Your area of interest could be about your family, children or pets, home and gardening, cooking.

You may be battling with a chronic illness or have overcome addiction and you want to share your journey of faith and victory.

Anything that you share will help someone because the world is a huge place and there is someone who is going through similar struggles and your testimony will encourage him.

After selecting a title for your blog, create your web address. I suggest you start with a free account and then upgrade later.

Then set up a profile and get a Gravatar. This is the image that represents you on WordPress.com. (WordPress will lead you to Gravatar)

Do not forget to add your website to your Gravatar. It makes it easier for viewers to find your website when they click on your image whenever you like a post. You can also add your other social media accounts to Gravatar.

Next week Thursday I will share with you How I selected a theme for my blog.

I have decided to add a new category to my blog entitled Blogging Tips where I will share my journey in the blogging world with you.

I will also share tips from professional and successful bloggers.

Every Thursday evening is dedicated to Blogging Tips so please join me on this journey.

Thank you for reading and following this blog. Before you leave, please share with us how you start your blog.

We will love to hear from you.
