Are We Selling Our Brethren For Profit?

This slot on Friday evening is usually reserved for some good funny church jokes. However, today I pause for a while.

I saw the following post on Facebook and I did not know whether to laugh or cry.

(I apologize for the poor quality of the images. You can view the original on the Facebook link)

My dear friends, do you think the church should join the money hungry merchants in the world to prophet from the pain and suffering of the sick and helpless who are suffering and some even dying from this deadly demonic virus?

My friends, after seeing this post, I chose to cry because God is also weeping.

When will we learn? When will we repent of our wicked ways so that God will heal our land?

I choose to repent!

So once again, I found myself crying out to God in repentance.

Lord, we have sinned and done evil in your sight. Please forgive us Lord. Have mercy upon us!

And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.

Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies? (Nehemiah 5:8)

After the Lord Jesus Christ has redeemed us from the bondage of sin and gave us a new life so that we are now children of the living God, should we indeed enslaved our brethren in the bondage of poverty by selling them the free gift of healing and salvation for money?

God forbid!

Lord, I repent on behalf of your people.

We have done foolishly in your sight.

Forgive us, Lord, and let your mercy dispel the fury of your great wrath that is upon this land.

Return, O Lord, deliver me! Oh, save me for Your mercies’ sake! (Psalms 6:4)

Forgive us and heal our land. It is not because of our righteousness, which is like filthy rags in your sight.

But, you will do it because of your everlasting mercy and your great name.

Lord, we repent! In Jesus name, Amen.

If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attend unto the prayer that is made in this place. (2 Chronicles 7:13-15)

AMEN!

  1. So sad. Are we just like the Israelites? It seems they kept turning their back on God as well. This truly grieves me as I know it hurts our Father. Oh Lord, have mercy on us for Your names sake. We humbly come before You, hear our cry and forgive us for it is in Jesus name we pray.

  2. There will always be those who try to profit from the loss of others. Meanwhile there are many other churches who are just going about the business of ministering quietly in the midst of this pandemic and trying to keep their doors open (whenever next they can open). I will not repent for the sins of people who are not even part of the body I serve. They will answer to God for themselves. I will pay attention to what God has put in front of my face and do what I see Him doing.

    • Everyman has to give account for his sins, but we can repent on behalf of the people for the healing of the land. We need this earth to heal and so we need to pray. Thanks for your input and for your prayers. God bless you.

      • I have been asking for many years when the judgment will come which we cannot avoid. I believe what we are seeing is the fulfillment of Mattthew 24. This time I think the land shall heal through judgment. We are in the beginning of birth pangs and I think the last verses of revelation apply….Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near. 11 Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.”

        Epilogue: Invitation and Warning
12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you[a] this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. 19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.

20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.”

        Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.

  3. Well said Beverley. That very scripture that you referred to (2 Chronicles 7:13-15), came to my mind before I had finished reading your post. Blessings to you. ♡

  4. It’s easy to pray for our world, to plead with God to stop the spread of this disease. But the disease that concerns God the most is the disease of sin in our heart. We all need to repent in order for the Lord to heal our land. We must REPENT or Perish. Lord I repent. Please have mercy on those who are yet to acknowledge and confess their sins before you and ask for your forgiveness

  5. I stand to repent too, When will we become more giving than grabbing and getting, It is more bless to give than to receive. I had recently read the Nehemiah 5 scripture and it was so sad they he had to stand against their wicked act to let them realize that they were only selling their own people for their own selfish gain. The title of my latest writing “Open My Eyes Oh Lord” is so important so we can be lead by God and escape the many traps the devil set out to rob us. Here is the link to it https://mauriceomalcolm.com/2020/03/27/open-my-eyes-oh-lord/
Let us continue to pray because we need God’s mercies and intervention. Don’t worry many people might over look giving $19 God rule in the affairs of His people just pray and watch God work.

  6. So sad that a “ministry” would do this.
Rather than sending money to places like those, I think it is more honoring to God to give to local church a person is part of and to ministries that are actually sharing the gospel while helping others during this time such as Samaritans Purse. Samaritans Purse opened a field hospital in Northern Italy to help treat COVID-19 victim.

  7. Be encouraged. There have always been those who preach the Word for their own reasons.

It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. The latter do so out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17 The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains. 18 But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,

    Philippians 1:15-18 (NIV)

  8. This is very sad that people, especially those in the church, are using this crisis for personal gain. But it just shows how many are being used by the enemy. We have to be careful and stay in prayer. Broad is the road that leads to destruction and narrow is the road that leads to life! Thanks for sharing this.

    • It is bad enough going to the supermarkets and seeing the escalation in prices on the items that they said we need, but when the church is also seeking financial gain that is even worst. Some of the churches are providing bank acccounts etc to ensure that the people still pay their tithes and offering. It appears as if on that broad road are many christians especially pastors. Thanks for your views.

  9. Hi Beverley : You used a very appropriate word when you wrote that God’s ‘fury’ is upon the land.
We know from scripture that God is slow to anger, but his indignation has been building up for a long time. Yes, may we be led to repentance.

    • Yes, indeed Sally. It is a built up of emotion. Indeed, Jesus is our great intercessor who stands in the gap for us. But, the sin of men on earth is grieving the heart of God. Thank you for sharing. I was just thinking about you saying to myself that I need to visit your blog.

  10. Smh! I’m appalled at the gall of our people. Tsk tsk. May the Lord help us to take heed and be sober during these times. May we also learn from this example in our conduct and speech always 🙏🏽

  11. We should give from the heart and pray to our Heavenly Father for help in times of crisis. Paying money does not cure or heal, nor does profiting from ours to make self rich bring healing.
