The throne of God is in heaven and His footstool is on the earth.

A footstool is used to rest your feet.

Thus, God wants a resting place on earth. He needs a house where He can rest.

The Ark of the Covenant dwelt in tabernacles since the exodus from Egypt.

The children of Israel had possessed the Promised Land and were now dwelling in permanent houses made of stones.

But, the Ark of God dwelled in temporary tents.

This situation did not appear right to David.

Then King David rose to his feet and said, “Hear me, my brethren and my people; I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and for the footstool of our God, and had made preparations to build it.” (2 Chronicles 28:2)       

David recognized that the Lord needed a resting place on earth and decided to build a temple for Him.

The Lord honored David’s desire but commisioned his son, Solomon, to build the temple since David was a man of war.

God gave Solomon peace throughout his reign so that he could build a holy temple to Him.

In the new covenant of the Lord Jesus Christ the temple of God is in the spiritual hearts of the believers.

To build your body as a holy resting place for God, you heart must be free from the contamination of sin.

You also need the peace of God that surpasses all understanding to keep your heart and mind at rest with God.

“Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as He appointed, instructing Moses to make it according to the pattern that he had seen, which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Joshua into the land possessed by the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of David, who found favor before God and asked to find a dwelling for the God of Jacob. But Solomon built Him a house.

“However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says: ‘Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. What house will you build for Me? says the Lord, Or what is the place of My rest? Has My hand not made all these things? (Acts 7:44-50)

May God grant you peace to enter into His rest.
