Are you wandering aimlessly in the wilderness of trials?

Are you lost in the desert of testing?

Dangers are all around.

The scorching sun increased temperatures,

And tempers flared with angry words of regret.

You hunger and thirst for the bread of life

And the springs of refreshing water.

“But fear not!” said the Lord,

“For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty,

And floods upon the dry ground:

I will pour my Spirit upon your seed,

And my blessing upon your offspring;

And they shall spring up as among the grass

And as willows by the water courses.” (Isaiah 44:3-4).

Ferocious beasts are lurking among

The rocky crevices of the desert.

They snarled, they snapped at your flesh.

You falter, you fall.

Do not stay down – get up and hold on to this rock:

“And I will make with them a covenant of peace,

And will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land

And they shall dwell safely in the wilderness,

And sleep in the woods.” Said the Lord,

“And I will make them and the places round about my hill a Blessing;

And I will cause the shower to come down in its season.

There shall be showers of blessings.”( Ezekiel 34:25-26).

At nights the wilderness brings terror of the unknown.

It brings chills of depression.

The spirit of fear and loneliness plague your mind with hallucination.

Rest in the habitation of the Lord because:

“A thousand shall fall at thy side,

And ten thousand at thy right hand;

But it shall not come nigh thee.

Only with your eyes shall you behold

And see the reward of the wicked.” (Psalms 91: 7 – 8).

The dessert produced thieves and dream killers

Waiting to steal your joy, your hopes and your dreams.

Do not be dismayed for our hope is an anchor both sure and steadfast.

He is Christ Jesus, who intercedes behind the veil.

“For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel:

‘In returning and rest you shall be saved;

In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”(Isaiah 30:15).

“For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep

Your foot from being caught” (Proverbs 3:26).

Occasional burst of angry storms rolled violently

Through the atmosphere bringing thunder and lightning

Which seems to overshadow you;

And the overflowing waters of distress threatened to cast you down;

And you wish that ‘you have the wings of a dove

So that you can fly away and be at rest’. (Psalms 55:6).

Rest in this:

“Cry unto the Lord and He will calm the storm to a whisper;

So that the waves thereof are still.

For the Lord your God will build you a tabernacle

For a shadow in the day time from the heat;

And for a place of refuge;

And for a safe place from the storm and the rain.” (Psalms 107:29; Isaiah 4:6).

Do not give up while in the wilderness,  

Because a Jordan is waiting.

You will cross over the other side into

The Promise Land on the bridge of faith and trust.

Supernatural blessings await you under the covenant of Abraham.

“The blessing of Abraham will come upon us,

Through Christ Jesus that we might receive

The promise of the Spirit through faith” (Galatians 3:4).

On the other side of Jordan will be a table spread

Before you in the presence of your enemies. (Psalms 23:5).

The table will contain:

“Large and beautiful cities which you did not build;

Houses full of good things, which you did not fill;

Hewn out wells which you did not dig;

Vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant.

You will have rest and peace from your enemies.” (Deuteronomy 6: 10 -11; 12: 10).

Before you partake of this feast,

You will be washed and sanctified by

The word of God in rivers of living water.

As you feast,

“The Lord will anoint your head with oil;

Your cup will run over.

Surely, goodness and mercy will follow you

All the days of your life and you will

Dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”(Psalms 23:6)

The wilderness is defined by the English dictionary as a wild and uncultivated region e.g. desert or forest. The area is usually uninhabited or inhabited by wild animals. The wilderness is definitely a difficult place for humans to live because of its lack of food and water. Those are basic items needed for man’s survival.

Many great men of the Bible such as Moses and Jesus had to spend some time in the literal wilderness before God elevated them to the position of leadership. The wilderness was therefore a place where they were forced to endure physical hardship in order to teach them humility and stamina.

The children of Israel spent forty years wandering in the wilderness until the generation that came out of Egypt died, with the exception of Joshua and Caleb. The Israelites perished because they continued to walk in disobedience, stubbornness and unbelief instead of trusting the mighty God who did so much great and miraculous things in their lives.  

The Israelites’ experience in the wilderness is an example to all Christians. Our wilderness period is a place of testing where we will face persecutions and temptations. It is designed to purify and humble our hearts before God so that we can trust and obey Him.

Similar to the children of Israel, during the wilderness period, God will not forsake us but He will go before us as a cloud by day and a consuming fire by night in order to guide and protect us. Therefore do not be overcome by the trials in the wilderness but receive the blessings that God provides so that during those turbulent times you will not perish but live to declare the glory of God.
