Conquering Your Mind

God told Noah that although the imagination of man’s heart is evil from its youth, He will never again curse the ground for man’s sake neither will He destroy every living thing on the earth (Genesis 8:21)

Yet the heart of man continues to be evil (The heart refers to the mind of man).

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it? (Jeremiah 17:9)

The Lord Jesus Christ stated that a person is defiled not by the things that he eats, but by the words that come out of his mouth from his heart.

Every tree bear its own unique fruits and if the tree is bad it will produce bad fruits.

Likewise only good fruits are produced on good trees.

Similarly, an evil person can only produce evil from the treasures of an evil heart.

An evil heart stores wicked thoughts such as malice, lies, murder, fornication and adultery.

It is difficult for you to know the heart of a person by looking at their outward appearance.

Only when a person speaks, do you get a glimpse of their heart.

But there is someone greater than all of us that knows the intent and state of each person’s heart.

I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings. (Jeremiah 17:10)

The Word spoken from the mouth of God is alive and powerful and is able to pierce the heart to divide the soul and spirit.

The Word of the Lord is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Nothing is hidden form God because all things are exposed to Him and everyone must give account for the state of his heart.

Therefore, the heart must be controlled and the mind conquered.

How can the mind be conquered?

1) The mind can be conquered by transfomation with the Word of God.

2) Receiving the new covenant of God through the Lord Jesus Christ, which will allow the Lord to put His laws in your mind and to write them in your heart.

3) Following the footsteps of Christ so that you will receive His mind.

4) Live according to the Spirit and not the flesh.

5) By being humble and like-minded toward each other in Jesus Christ.

6) Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and set your mind on things above and not on the earth.

Benefits of a conquered mind

  • Perfect peace from the Lord.

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. (Isaiah 26:3)

  • Relationship

The Lord will be your God and you will become His children.

But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their [i]hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. (Jeremiah 31:33)

  • Discernment

You will be able to prove what is good and acceptable and be in the perfect will of God.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2)

  • Fruitfulness

You will bear abundant good fruits, which are the fruit of the Spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23)

  • Humility and exaltation through the Lord Jesus Christ. (Philippians 2:5-11)

Final words

Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you ( 2 Corinthians 13 :11)

  1. Thanks Beverley. This was really good. We have to actively pursue the Lord and the things of the Lord to conquer our flesh and the ways of the world. As soon as we get too relaxed we can go astray. The enemy usually makes little things seem harmless to get us to take our focus off of Jesus. Then next thing you know your heart has drifted away into full blown sin.

    • You are so right. The enemy is subtle in his move. He usually starts out with the small little things that we take for granted. The mind is a tough battle, but it can be conquered with the Word of God. One of the ways that God taught me to control my mind is to put away all secular books. When I stopped reading those books I learned to focus my mind on the Word of God. Thank you for sharing.

  2. So true……
He knows all things and sees all things and know His way is True. We’re looking toward that day when He makes all things brand new.

Revelation 21:5 “And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”
