Cast Out The Nations In Your Promised Land

In 2015, when I celebrated my fiftieth birthday, the Lord told me to walk into my Jubilee and enter my Promised Land.

The Lord meant that it was now time for me to walk in my destiny.

The Lord also told me that there were nations/giants in the land. They were mighty and stronger than me, but He will go before me as a consuming fire to destroy the giants.

I obeyed the Lord and entered into my destiny.

However, it has been over three years and I feel as if I am still battling the giants in the land.

I am still struggling financially and every now and then, the devil tries to throw me back into the wilderness.

So I decided to ask the Lord what is happening because I cannot understand why I am still struggling and I have been obedient to Him in everything He told me to do.

The Lord directed me to Deuteronomy 7

When the Lord your God brings you into the land which you go to possess, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you. (Deuteronomy 7:1)

The Lord told me that there were seven nations that I must cast out of the promised land before I could finally see all the manifestations of the blessings of the land.

These seven nations are greater and stronger than me and I have to learn how to overcome them.

Thus, I decided to research the meaning of the names of these nations to see the spiritual implications. Apparently, there are some stuff in my life that I must put in subjection to God.

The revelations of the meaning of the names were astounding, to say the least.

The HittitesChittiy (Strong Hebrew/Greek concordance H2850) were the descendant of Heth – the second son of Canaan. They once inhabited Anatolia now modern-day Turkey and later north Lebanon.

Heth is from the root word cheth (Strong H2845), which means fear or terror.

Istanbul, Turkey

The GirgashitesGirgashiy (Strong H1622) – dwelling on clayey soil. They were descendants of Canaan who lived east of the sea of Galilee.

The AmoritesEmoriy (Strong H567) meaning “a sayer.” They dwelled east of Canaan and beyond the Jordan.

It is from the Hebrew root word amar (Strong H559) meaning to say, speak utter, to say in one’s heart, to boast and to act proudly.

The CanaanitesKenaaniy (Strong H3669) meaning Zealous (fiercely partisan); the descendant of Canaan; a merchant or trader.

Kenaaniy is from the Hebrew root word Kenaan (Strong H3667) meaning lowland. The 4th son of Ham and the progenitor of the Phoenicians and of the various nations who peopled the seacoast of Palestine.

The PerizzitesPerizziy (Strong H6522) meaning belonging to a village. They were the people who inhabited southern Canaan.

Perizziy is from the root word peraziy (Strong H6521) meaning villager, rural dweller, hamlet-dweller, open region. It means one dwelling in the country. (Could this symbolized small-mindedness?)

The HivitesChivviy – (strong H2340) meaning villagers or belonging to a village.

They were the 6th generation of descendants of Canaan, the son of Ham, who were living in northern Canaan near Mount Hermon at the time of the conquest.

Hivite is from the Hebrew root word Chavvah (Strong H2333) meaning village, town, tent village, an encampment of a village.

The JebusitesYebuwciy (Strong H2983) – descendants of Jebus the third son of Canaan who lived in or around the site of Jebus. This was the early name of Jerusalem.

Yebuwciy is from the root word Yebuwc (Strong H2982) meaning threshing floor or a place that was trodden down.

Jerusalem, Israel

When I put all the above meanings together I received a clear message from the Lord.

The Lord is saying to me that I still have fear in my heart that I need to overcome. I am still clinging to the past (clayey soil) refusing to venture into new territory.

The Lord is saying to me that there is still pride in my heart that I need to cast out with the spirit of Humility. Maybe I speak my mind too freely or perhaps I will be boastful when He has blessed me with great wealth.

The Lord is also saying that I am narrow-minded and lack tolerance. I am also downtrodden and living a defeated lifestyle.

These are the seven nations/giants that are occupying my Promised Land that I need to cast out.

1. Fear

All my life I have been battling with fear. It constantly sneaked into my life in different forms trying to destroy my family and me.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. (1 John4:18)

I will cast out the nation or giant of fear with love, power, and a sound mind.

2.  Pride

But He giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:6-7)

The giant of pride is destroyed with humility.

3. Timidness

For I will cast out the nations before thee, and enlarge thy borders: neither shall any man desire thy land, when thou shalt go up to appear before the Lord thy God thrice in the year. (Exodus 34:24)

The Lord promised to enlarge my borders as long as I am obedient to His words. The Holy Spirit will give me the boldness to venture out into new territories.

4.  Intolerance

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering. Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. (Colossians 3:12-13)

The giant of intolerance is defeated with love, kindness, longsuffering, meekness, forgiving, and patience.

5.  Partiality

I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality. (1 Timothy 5:21)

Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous. That which is altogether just shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. (Deuteronomy 16:19-20)

The giant of partiality and discrimination are conquered by the spirit of fairness and justness.

6.  Living in defeat

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:57-58)

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4)

Our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ has given us the victory. Amen!

7.  Past Sins

For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; (Solomon 2:11-12)

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins. (Ephesians 2:1)

The giant that keeps reminding us of the past sins has been defeated by the finished work on Calvary. We are made alive by the power of Christ’s resurrection.

As I continue to meditate on the Word of God and apply it to my life, eventually all seven nations/giants in my Promised Land will be thrown out.

Thank you, Lord!

  1. This is so good! We wrestle a lot with these “nations” and don’t realize how much our heart posture blocks our blessings. We need to release these things and replace them with what God says! Love love love this post

    • Thank God that this post has been a blessing to you. It has also blessed me tremendously. Sometimes we think that we have overcome some stuff in our lives, but we have not. That is why it is so important that we ask the Lord to search our hearts and cleanse it from the things that are not of Him. Thank you for visiting and sharing and have a great week in the Lord

  2. Keep persevering you are on the right track. Don’t forget that it took the Israelites 40 years in the wilderness. I use to think; how could they allow that. Until I realized it was taking me an even longer time to get past some things in my life. I would also think in terms of financial blessings but not so much so now, as I see all the intangible ways in which God has blessed me. As you know God is very patient, so you may stay at this point for sometime until He sees fit to move you to another level. The sooner you learn your lessons, the sooner you move.

    • Nicely put. I will be 66 next month and can hardly believe how fast the years have gone by, and there are times I still struggle with insecurities, but yet in the midst of these days I am used by God to be an encourager to someone else, which amazes me and gives great joy to the giver and receiver in that moment. That could only be the Holy Spirit. I suppose those are the times when I am weak, and He is strong. I know it’s not about me, it’s about His Love and patience with me, when I am not patient with myself, and to trust that God will strengthen me to overcome those personal giants I need to conquer. This was a great message, very well researched and what you said mycreatorscreation, touched my heart. God bless.

      • You don’t look a day older than 25☺and that is because of the Holy Spirit of God who lives inside your heart. The Lord is able to keep you fresh and young inspite of your trials. When we encourage each other as we are doing now the burden seemed to get lighter. This is what God wants us to do when He said confess our faults one to another that we may be healed. I felt strengthened by all the encouragements that I have received on this post. You and all of my blogging friends have been more than a blessing in my life. Thank you!

    • Amen. The Israelites took forty years because they were stubborn. We will not take forty years because we are the blessed generation who believe even though we do not see signs and wonders like the Israelites. The Lord likes to teach us patience and that is the reason He wants us to wait. Thank you for reminding me of this. Your encouragements are a blessing to me. Have a blessed day.

  3. We are here upon this earth so briefly in our finite state. To see, hear and obey even when we don’t understand the why and when at times—are the moments most precious to God and beneficial to our spiritual growth in Him.

“For in Him we live and move and have our being. … ‘We are His offspring,’”Acts 17:28. Therefore, “Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid or dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go,” Joshua 1:9.

Remember the giants in the land are also merely specks of dusk in the hands of our Mighty and Sovereign God!

Therefore we are more than conquerors—we are the children of the Most High God. His promises are forever true and renewed EVERY morning. No one and nothing can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord, Romans 8:38.

    • Amen and Amen. Hallelujah! Confirmation of the word. I especially like the fact that the giants are just spec of dust in the eyes of God. Thank you, Lord that you are bigger than the nations and mightier than the universe that you created. Thank you, Candice for these encouraging words and God bless you.

    • Awesome reply, Candace, as well as encouraged my spirit. I’ve referred those very scriptures to others for an encouragement to them as well. ♡

  4. My pleasure dear sister. I have learned throughout my walk of faith and obedience that seeing all things from the Lord’s prospective always brings peace, assurance and strength.

  5. I found this blog by the grace of my holy father. It’s as if I wrote myself a letter from the near future. I’m 51, male and was given the gift of faith over 7 years ago. I have at times walked with the holy spirit and have witnessed amazing things. The pattern I have repeated over and over, is to fall by one or more of the “nations” you explained. I still live a life of financial self defeat. I have, by the holy spirit received instructions to be wealthy yet do not seek to increase my wealth for fear of temptation and losing my way. The other great fear comes each time I approach, I’m not sure how to explain this: truly submitting, loving, becoming Christ like in my thoughts and actions…
I once over came this fear, 7 years ago, after a week of amazing events I retreated to the more comfortable, though more miserable life of living righteously but not submissive to God’s will.
Tonight, I am thankful for my holy father and his continuous love. I give praise and glory to God in all circumstances, for it is his will and only by his will am I quickened.
If you are of Christ then we are of one mind and spirit.
