Are You Tired Of Giving Two Mites?

From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart, you shall take My offering. (Exodus 25:-2)

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart, you shall take My offering. (Exodus 25:1-2)

To make the tabernacle, God asked the people for an offering. But, He specifically told Moses to accept an offering only from those who give willingly from the heart.

Many times pastors or church leaders coerced the congregation into throwing an offering or in paying their tithes.

They will tell the congregation that if they do not pay their tithes God will curse them. Note the use of the word ‘pay‘.

By using this word it appears as if we owe God something or we have to pay God for His blessings. Hence many church folks ‘pay’ their tithes unwilling or grudgingly similar to how they pay their bills and taxes.

None of us like to pay bills or taxes and we often do this with a heavy heart.

Therefore, it does not matter the amount of money that we ‘pay’ in offering or tithes if we are not doing it from a willing and cheerful heart God does not accept it.

But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one gives as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written: “He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.” (2 Corinthians 9:6-9)

We should not give because we feel compelled to do so. Neither should we give because we want to show off our wealth like the rich people who threw their offering out of their abundance (Mark 12:41-44).

We should give with a willing and cheerful heart.

How do you know if your heart is cheerful?

When you are happy to give promptly and generously without being forced.

When you give mercifully and with compassion.

When you give without looking for a reward.

Truthfully speaking, I would love to give money out of my abundance with a cheerful heart.

I am tired of penny-pinching and giving only two mites or a few dollar bills. I want to be able to give $100 or more willingly without fretting on it. What do you think?

We should also bear in mind that giving is not only money, but it is our time and commitment to God and each other.

Some people will quickly give any amount of money to the church but are reluctant to give their life to God.

Will God accept your money and bless you without any commitment to Him?

The answer is debatable. But, we need to think about this question seriously.

  1. I just heard a message on spiritual warfare. The message declared three weapons that all Christians have in their Arsenal. The first weapon is compassion and generosity. That was such a powerful thought, that it is our giving and our compassionate service which tears down the kingdom of Satan. How can we not then willingly give

  5. These are my thoughts Beverley, thanks for the opportunity to share them. Gods blessings to you always….

    God does not need our money, He “owns the cattle upon a thousand hills”; but He does love a cheerful giver. We give our tithes to where we’re taught the Truth of Gods Word, and our love gifts as an extra giving from out the abundance of our hearts. That could be our time, our compassion, our forgiveness, our faith, our love, or shelter from the cold wet weather, or any extra money we feel the unction from the Holy Spirit to give to those in need.
    However, our Heavenly Father does not want us to go without either. Those things we need to buy-food, medicine, and shelter are what God wants us to be sure to have. He knows we need these necessary things in life. He’s quite intelligent and He knows our hearts and He gives abundantly when we love Him and obey His Word.
    On the other hand, it is a sad sight to see so many homeless, and such chaos all over the world. God knows them all and whatever plight they’re in. Some willingly choose to live this way, and others are forced by unfortunate, horrific circumstances. If only we could step out of time and give of our time and compassion and put an arm around them and tell them how much their Heavenly Father loves them and that they’re never alone. He may not love what they’re doing, but He does love them. We couldn’t be more blessed for having God like that, the Blessed Controller of all our lives.

    • Hi Susan. Thank you for this word which is right on target. God certainly does not need our money, but most times we only focus on the money because that is one of the easiest things to give. Many people don’t want to give their time to help those who are in need. Many of us hold on to grudge refusing to forgive. Those are much important than money as you stated. The verses are reminders to us that God cares about our hearts not our pockets or pocket books. Once again thank you so much for sharing your heart. We appreciate it. ❤ and hugs 🤗

  6. We don’t pay a tithe we bring the tithe. It all belongs to Him we are to be obedient by bringing the tithe. An offering is what we give above our tithe. When we bring the tithe God says He would rebuke the devour for your sake but when you don’t bring the tithe the Bible says you are cursed with a curse which means God speaks negatively of you. A tithe allows for there to be meat in His house, an offering is what comes out of the window when you brought the tithe.
