The Lord Will Not Hearken Unto Balaam

God will not listen to Balaam! God will not listen to every prophecy that is prophesied in His name.

Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you. But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand. (Joshua 24:9-10)

Direct prophecy from God is a word for word dictation from the mouth of God.

Indirect prophecy from God is when someone prophesied from a position of authority in the name of the Lord.

The latter depends on the prophet’s relationship with God.

A perfect example of this is the sinless Adam.

God created Adam in His image and likeness, and gave him authority over every living and creeping things upon the earth.

God gave Adam the authority to replenish, multiply and subdue the earth. God gave him total control over the earth.

The Lord then placed Adam in the Garden of Eden to exercise his power and authority.

One of the first test that God gave Adam was to take all the animals that He had created to him to give them a name.

Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. (Genesis 2:19-20)

Adam exercised his authority based on the position of power that God gave him.

Thus, he gave each animals their identity. For example, a cow is different from a dog because of their looks and characteristics.

Adam made all of that decisions, not God. But, God approved and He blessed him with a companion equals to him (Genesis 2).

A prophet who is ordained by God to be a prophet to the nation, may eventually become slack in his relationship with God. He no longer spend quality time in prayer and fasting. Additionally, he may harbor pride, unforgiveness and bitterness in his heart.

Such prophet has lost his authority, so when he prophesied, the Lord will not honor his words.

Because, God will not hearken unto Balaam!

Who is Balaam?

Balaam was a diviner who who used magic and occultism to predict the future. He also consulted with the living God when he believed that the task was too great for His witchcraft.

Balaam decided to consult God when Balak, the king of Moab told him to curse the Israelites. He knew that the nation of Israel was mighty and under the control of God.

The Lord forbid Balaam to curse the Israelites so he refused the assignment, but the king persisted and sent his men to Balaam a second time.

This time the Lord told Balaam to go with the kings men…”but only the word which I speak to you—that you shall do” (Numbers 22:20)

The Lord expected Balaam to wait on Him to give him the Word to speak over the Israelites.

However, Balaam had a hasty spirit and love the wages of unrighteousness and so he couldn’t wait the next morning to saddle his donkey to go with the king’s men to curse the Israelites.

But, God knew Balaam’ s evil intentions and sent His angel with a flaming sword to block his pathway to evil.

You can read the full story in Numbers 22-23.

In the final analysis when Balaam opened his mouth to curse Israel he found himself blessing them instead, because whoever God blessed and anointed no man can curse them.

Unfortunately, in our present dispensation some prophets are operating similar to Balaam.

They consult with the occultic world to produce magic and illusion in their churches to place the congregation in a trance and to perform healing.

Yes, Satan can (heal) but his power is (limited).

There are also some pastors and prophets who are prophesying with a Balaam Spirit.

Read about this spirit here.

In all of these cases, the Lord will not hearken unto Balaam.

People of God, ensure that you do not believe every spirit but test the spirit to know who is of God.

Because, God will not hearken unto Balaam.
