Only What’s Done For Christ Will Last.

Today is exactly 29 days since hurricane Irma tore through our beautiful islands and broke them apart.

Normalcy has been thrown into disarray. Once you had a shelter then in a split second it was snatched away.

Once you had a sure source of income then suddenly you have been fired, not by the hands of man, but by the great force of nature.

Once you were living debt free then within a day you have accumulated a lifetime of expenses.

Yesterday you live in exaltation but today you are debased.

Yes, once upon a time you have everything but, alas, today you have nothing.

Hurricane Irma the great equalizer!

As I reflected upon the past horrific events and looked around at the evidence of Irma’s wrath, I remembered a phrase from a poem by Charles Studd which states:

Only one life, yes only one,
Now let me say, “Thy will be done”;
And when at last I’ll hear the call,
I know I’ll say “twas worth it all”;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last. ”
C.T. Studd

This is reinforced by the verse:

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:58)

Thus says the Lord of hosts: “The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; The people will labor in vain, and the nations, because of the fire; and they shall be weary.” (Jeremiah 5: 58)

Babylon will fall!

It is good to enjoy your labor, but it is better to focus your labor on the plans of God.

Therefore, we give you thanks, O’ Lord for you are truly a great God!

  1. Powerful words we all need to remember. Everything that is tied to this Earth is subject to the fall and we are in the time when we must be prepared to let it all go for the greater knowledge of Christ whose foundation alone remains unshakeable. I am sorry for the losses you have experienced sister, but am glad your faith is great!
